What I did on my summer staycation
katniss
cleolinda
So. Emily (foresthouse) came to visit for a few days and we ate our way through the restaurants of Homewood (the new Which Wich was hands down our favorite, although Dave's Pizza was also excellent) (although my favorite Chinese restaurant, the Dragon, CLOSED FOREVER the day after we had lunch there), and then we watched The Hunger Games while she sewed on her DragonCon costumes and OMG PROMETHEUS ON THE HOTEL TV BECAUSE THAT IS A THING THEY ACTUALLY DO

@cleolinda: YEAH WE ARE RT @foresthouse: GUESS WHAT WE ARE WATCHING. IN OUR HOTEL. WHILE SITTING IN BED. WITH WINE AND COOKIES. http://yfrog.com/nyxy5nlj

@foresthouse: THERE IS NO EMOTICON FOR HOW HAPPY CLEO IS RIGHT NOW. RT @Eviey @cleolinda @foresthouse there is no emoticon for how jealous I am right now.

@foresthouse: Although this might work: \;;;\ /;;;/ ~;;;~ \;;;\ /;;;/

@cleolinda: "You told me this was a crazy movie," says @foresthouse to me, "but I'm only just now understanding how crazy it IS."

@foresthouse: She is now shrieking "DAVID STOP TOUCHING THAT!!" and laughing hysterically.

I was mostly clappy-hands because now she can read Prometheus in Fifteen Minutes (I refrained from doing a live recitation of it) AND THEN THEY EVEN COMPED OUR RIDICULOUSLY PRICED MOVIES BECAUSE HOTEL ROOMS ARE THE BEST and we also saw The Bourne Legacy in an actual movie theater and slept a lot and also she taught me how to play pool. And then I went home, promptly came down with a terrible sore throat in the middle of last night which turned into a chest cold and a twisted knee because... somehow. However, I interrupt my death blarg because there is something you need to see.

@Tonnerdoll: The Fall Holiday Release is NOW LIVE!! Place your pre orders now and get FREE SHIPPING!!

@cleolinda: *SCREAM* RT @Tonnerdoll: @foresthouse u have 2 tell @cleolinda her #Katniss has arrived! ^kv

WHAT IS AIR

no seriously, what is air and do you know where I can get some, I am having a hard time breathing with this cold and all

Also, there are more Vampire Diaries dolls and a Disney Rapunzel and Deathly Hallows Ron Weasley and a steampunk Wonder Woman and Awkwardly Timed Wedding Bella Swan, if you are interested.

@blu22_: That reminds me, I finished re-reading [Secret Life of Dolls] the other day and meant to ask you if you were going to be continuing in the future.

@cleolinda: I will be. I've just been sick (anemic) and life has gotten in the way. I feel like I left off two months ago; time crept up on me.

It's one for the Christmas list (and I'm so behind on the story--I haven't even introduced my beloved Tonner Alice, who stands beneficently on my desk, yet--that a wait doesn't really matter), but Tonner Katniss will join the gang eventually. Probably like ten years from now, by the time I get that far.

@kitsunewill: Anna would try to gank the bow, then Katniss would flip her shit and Galadriel would start drinking early.

@cleolinda: "She shoots the squirrels right through the eye, every time." "...She can stay."

Then that thing happened where you are kind of run-on-sentence giddy and recovering from fun but then something serious happens and you are somewhat at sea with the record-needle-scratch suddenness of the tone change. My stepfather had had some health issues that I didn't mention, and spent a few days in the hospital several weeks ago. It's worse now, and he's going to have to have a fairly major surgery next week--stomach issues, not cancer or anything, but still a little scary. People usually give me the side-eye when they realize I don't live on my own, but at least I'll be here to help take care of him when he gets home. He's also just been laid off from work ("displaced" is the term they use nowadays) so... taking time off isn't an issue, at least...? I guess. I'm in "clinging to fun that was had in order to ward off anxiety" mode at this point. Things are not great, but we will be okay. I've had a lot of health and money issues to deal with for... well, a long time now. Several months, maybe a year or longer, honestly. Hence the infrequency of LJ entries, and why some of the ongoing series-type posts just... stopped. I'm going to try to post more, maybe start with more Varney the Vampire for the tip jar, put up an e-book of the Twilight book entries, annotate some more Fifteen Minutes(es), I don't know. We'll see. Also, I haven't done it yet, but I'm going to have to turn on ads here on LJ. It is what it is, I guess. You do what you can, and try to keep your chin up as you do it.

ETA: Ah, my stepfather's come back from the doctor; it looks like he'll have to have a CAT scan to be sure, but not surgery now. So we've got that going for us.

Take care of you and yours, sweetness. It's a tough time out here (for a pimp).

HUGS

Thanks; I'm just at that feverish Unhappy Nose stage at this point, I think.

Sorry to hear about your stepfather -- I'll be praying for him. Off to hit the tip jar in anticipation of all the Varney goodness to come . . .

I don't know if you saw the ETA, but I almost immediately heard that he won't need surgery (for now) after all. So... wow, thank you.

So glad you're doing ads. Will hit the tip jar when I can but am glad there's another way to help as well. Also ultra excited at the thought of more Secret Life!!

Edited to add that I'm also very sorry to hear about your stepfather and will keep him in my prayers. So sorry I omitted this from my original comment.

Edited at 2012-08-29 07:45 pm (UTC)

... that reminds me, I should probably actually go turn the ads ON now.

(Don't worry, I would have assumed goodwill on that point. :)

I'm sorry to hear about your stepfather, he will be in my thoughts.

This seems like it has been a rough year all around, I know so many people right now who are going through money and health issues (myself included). Hopefully 2013 is going to be better.

Edited at 2012-08-29 07:47 pm (UTC)

Yeah--I've just started thinking of every year as a rough year in its own way. As its own "challenge," if you will. Takes the sting of surprise out of it, somehow.

I want to know what foresthouse will be wearing so I can look for her! it's not like we're friends but more like we're-both-friends-of-cleo and if I see her, I'd love to say hi!

Haha, I don't mind saying hi to people who know people I know or...stuff. I'm doing Girl Jayne; Arkham City Harley Quinn; and a Deadpool cheerleader. :P

Must...not...buy...Tonner...must..save..money...for Wilde Imagination...GAH!

(I notice they seem to have smoothed out Damon Salvatore's srange Buffy-verse vamp!face a little. Good to see!)

I'm so sorry to here about your stepfather. I know what it's like to have a parent's health in a crisis while you're not so great yourself. I've been spending the last year trying to control my anxiety, and then my mother (my greatest support through all this) has started having heart problems. Really scary stuff. I've been making it through by focusing on the fact that, while I would never ever want my mother to be sick if there was any way to help it, shouldering some of her burden of keeping up the house has made me feel truly useful for the first time in years. I'd gotten to a point where I was feeling like a way-too-old leech on the family, and now I feel like I'm helping make it work.

Anyway, you and your family are in my thoughts.

Yeah, I also want the new steampunk Imperium Park doll(s) they came out with--Theodora, I think? And a Lizette from the Ellowyne Wilde line. You know, once that money tree shows up in my backyard.

Yeah, it's times like these where you kind of go, look, this is WHY our situation works for us, so go take your side-eye elsewhere. And good thoughts for your mother, too.

I'm sorry to hear about your step-father.

I'm also sorry that you're finding it necessary to slog through Varney the Vampire.

Heh, I found it to be a lot of fun--writing about it, anyway. I read ahead a little, about halfway through the whole thing (unabridged), and there were a few moments I found fairly entertaining. A few.

I also meant to tell you that the last SLoD entry was never linked over to the wiki page. Thought you might want to know.

I hope both you and your stepfather feel better soon. I still live at home and have a bunch of family members with health issues so I can commiserate. Things will get better.

Oh, that's right, I need to put that in. Thanks.

My best wishes for you and your family.

>>>People usually give me the side-eye when they realize I don't live on my own

Grr. If they can afford live Independently!!! with no major financial or medical (either physical or mental or both) problems - good for them. But why it's so hard to realise not everyone can?! Living apart from relatives feels great when they are hurtful in some ways, okay. But it shouldn't be mandatory.

Well, it's just--look, you can think whatever you want, but then people actually get on Tumblr and ask me WHY I live with my family. Well, I live with them because it works for us and also none of your business, maybe?

(General "you," obviously.)

Edited at 2012-08-31 02:41 am (UTC)

my best friend's roommate's fiance came over the other night and was all WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH THEY CLOSED DOWN THE DRAGON so you are not alone in your sadness.

will keep your family and situation in my prayers.

Dude, I don't even like Chinese food all that much, so losing the place that made really good Mongolian beef is something of a blow (she said facetiously). If something happens to the chicken fried rice at Surin West, the only place that makes it the way I like, I don't know what I'll do.

Sorry to hear about your stepfather, I hope he will be ok.

Also, um, has anyone noticed TonnerGale? http://www.tonnerdoll.com/hunger-games/gale lol I really don't understand his head. It's so big! And round! and out there And looks NOTHING like Liam Hemsworth like they claim!

I... I just decided to pretend that wasn't happening. Honestly, I'm not sure Hemworths in general would translate well to the very smooth, rounded style Tonner has (as opposed to the Freakishly Lifelike, Pores and All, Hot Toys style). At the same time, that's exactly why the Peeta might end up turning out well.

LOL! 'David, stop touching the alien goo' has become my favorite phrase to tell my SO when he is annoying me in an amusing fashion.

Sorry to hear about your stepfather. Stomach issues are never fun.

That Katniss doll is amazing and I want to have it. But then I'm sure my cats would eat it and possibly choke on her little bow. :(

Edited at 2012-08-29 11:44 pm (UTC)

Honestly, Serafina falls off the desk shelf and onto my head often enough as it is; you don't even need a third party in order for doll havoc to be wrought.

*HUG*

In happy news, Edward-cat is doing WONDERFULLY, and is BFFs with Duke. I hope that can cheer you up a little. *hugs again*

Oh, I remember Edward-cat! That's great to hear!

Missed your posts and wine and cookies in bed watching movies sounds awesome.

It totally, totally was. It was even better that the second one was "A MOVIE STILL IN THEATERS!!," as the TV informed us, because we got to laugh our asses off and not bother anyone.

I am doing a staycation in September (glee). Is that Katniss Everdeen action figure? Woo.

It is! I've been waiting for this to come out for months and months, to the point where even the Tonner Twitter guy was like "GO TELL CLEO IT'S HERE!!" He's lucky he wasn't around for the two full years I antsed around waiting for the Alice Cullen doll.

I'm more than a little disturbed that Ron Weasley looks a lot like pre-heroin Macaulay Culkin.
And I'm not getting a Hemsworth vibe from TonnerGale, not even of the Chris variety.

Yeahhhhh... guy dolls can be tough to pull off, particularly if your sculpting style is kind of rounded. Hot Toys does male characters wonderfully, but then, I'm pretty sure their figures are actually tiny humans trapped in plastic, so.

KATNISSSSSSssssss!!!! I may just have to save up for her (and Peeta possibly, which they naturally have no pics for) at some point. WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO MEEEEE?!?!?!

And I think she'll fit in perfectly amongst the Shelf.

Glad you had a fun time with Emily. I'm surprised Prometheus is available so soon, even on PPV.

Sorry to hear of the various health issues in your family. I've been having some of my own recently and it's no fun, lemmee tell ya. And my mom had foot surgery a few weeks ago, so I had to help her with various things.

I don't live on my own either and I've gotten to be ok with it. Of course, it doesn't help that neither my mom or I can afford to live on our own. It is what it is.

Well, and that's one of the reasons I lost my shit when we found it on the TV menu. They also had The Avengers--apparently it's a "MOVIES STILL IN THEATERS!!" thing. In case you're wondering how they manage that, it's because they were charging SEVENTEEN DOLLARS for it. Then I realized that was still less than both of us going to see it in the theater (and it's not even playing here anymore). And then the front desk comped it anyway. The universe aligned.

I hope things start looking up over there, too. We all do what we can.

Sending positive energy toward your stepfather, and hope that the hospital time will be as pleasant as possible and the lights not flicker badly. (I've had to spend some time in the hospital this year for family members myself.)

I literally clicked on this LJ post while in the middle of rereading my copy of the annotated Wizards M15M and laughing hysterically, and I was even wondering if you'd put out the Vampires! book and I'd missed it somehow. So: satisfied customer, would buy more.

Thank you for reminding me to finally buy my copy of the Wizards M15M!

Our Staycation was THE BEST. :D

All day today was Costume Work, OMG. Pants are almost done now though, thanks to Heather's friend Leslie helping. WHEW!! I don't know where I'd be without Heather & Leslie & the TWO sewing machines here.

I hope things work out well with your stepfather & all. You know I'm thinking of all of you! Feel better soon.

...DAVID!!!

I'm still kind of feverish, but he seems to be doing better, yeah. Released the kraken yet?

Healing thoughts to you and your stepfather.
If it makes you feel better you are not alone, I just turned 38, and I live in my parents backyard.

Thanks. I'm only 33, but I do live IN the house, rather than something separate FROM the house, so I guess it evens out. I think we all should just agree that we'll say, "Oh, well, you know, the economy" and everyone will nod seriously and let that be the end of it.

I'm so sorry to hear about your stepfather's illness (and yours). Thinking good thoughts.

Glad to hear you stepfather is going to be okay.

Actually I was wondering had you ever considered do a Secret Life of Dolls ebook?

I can only speak for my self but I'd be interested to see what goes on in planning the story.

Hm, people do suggest that a lot. I don't know exactly where the line is legally--I know that the Tolkien estate is extremely litigious. On one hand, if I use only my own pictures, they're my pictures of physical objects that I own; on the other, they involve characters that companies might not want someone to profit from. I mean, for convenience, I could round up everything and distribute it as a free ebook, but that's a different purpose right there. It's one thing to post it for free, and another to make money on it, so I don't exactly know where I would be crossing a line at this point.

Don't worry about being away; just come back, because we are so happy to see you. I'm sorry things are not good and I hope your stepfather is better again soon and that you also will be.

Pizza was also excellent

May be you are right, but I prefer to have Pizza in Italy. Italians said, that abroad impossible to cook real Italian Pizza because they use special LOCAL ingredients.

Re: Pizza was also excellent

Given that Italy was not within two blocks of my hotel, I made do with what I had.
