Finishing up for the day
I am having a gigantic crankiness problem lately, particularly in real life. I can tell I'm being really irritable and snappish, but noticing it tends to make me... more irritable. At least I can hide it a bit better online, but I'm still losing my patience way more often than I should--I get really pissed off about things I know are stupid, about things I know never used to bother me, but--it's completely involuntary and irrational. And I've been like this for weeks now, if not months.

I'm trying to work on it--I cut out caffeine again (a long while back) after I noticed it was making me cranky, I've been trying to eat better but more often, drink more water, get more sun--I already take a B complex and a multi-vitamin (and antidepressants, for those of you just coming in; I've been doing really well as far as the drugs + vitamins regimen goes, and for a long time now). I just don't know what else it is. Stress, maybe--stress of the uncertain and the unfinished, I guess. People around me dumping their stress on me, possibly. To be honest, I think a lot of it started six months ago when I began getting really emotional about turning thirty but not being what and where I wanted to be by this point in my life, and I don't think I've gotten past that yet.

I think I need more alcohol in my life. Perhaps something with fruit.

I second the comment about The Hangover - and actually I didn't find it as stupid as I feared (I'm not into stupid comedies) - I think it's because the characters themselves are reasonably intelligent as opposed to drooling cokeheads or whatever. I've been recommending it to people and want to see it again!

I have to say, I'm not a huge fan of the Jasmine Fallen Princess picture, almost as much as I'm REALLY not a fan of the Little Red Riding Hood one. Being Middle Eastern does not equal being a terrorist, just like being fat does not equal eating a ton of junk food.

It's too bad, because I really liked the other ones.
From: [info]suzeclues12 Date: June 16th, 2009 01:15 am (UTC) (Link)

Jasmine

I completely read this photo another way.
I somehow read it as Jasmine protecting her country, going to war for it, if need be. "Armies? Invading MY country? Bring it on!"
I loved it because she was bad ass and wearing pink Battle Dress Uniform - not an easy look, but she rocks it.
Of course, no, I'm not of Middle Eastern decent - I might have a different interpretation if I had ever been accused - or thought someone might accuse me - of being a terrorist myself. Which would totally not be cool.

So, I have a semi-rhetorical question. Given that the source material for the John Carter of Mars books was, at the very least, pretty much all NC-17 in terms of constant nudity (no clothes on Barsoom, remember, Pixar?), visage-wrecking ultraviolence, and nonstop sexing, how in $deity's name is Pixar going to film this and make it in any way faithful to the source material?

And Tars Tarkas better be fifteen goddamn feet tall like he is in canon. I'm just sayin'.
orca_girl From: [info]orca_girl Date: June 16th, 2009 02:38 am (UTC) (Link)
I'm kind of sitting back and wondering how spectacularly unfaithful to the source material it's going to be, basically.

Between having to figure out how to make parts of it non-sketchy, to having to figure out how to realize that story for a modern audience, to the all-nudity-all-the-time... to the white chick cast as Deja Thoris... yeah. I'm skeptical.

By the way:

http://www.stevemeyeranimation.com/animation.html

If you go there and click on the 2005 Animation Demo, you can see some demo bits that were done for a CGI Thark (possibly Tars Tarkus), back during the 2005 Paramount pre-production. Since that fell apart, of course this won't be used, but it's an interesting look at realizing the Thark concept. (I can't tell if he's actually 15 feet tall, with all the moving and ducking and stuff; he's pretty big, though.)

I know exactly how you feel. I went throught the same thing when I was about 25 and had to come to terms with it. Turning 30 was no fun either as I was pregnant. My "career" is completely polar opposite of what I had intended but somehow it has turned out okay. There are lots of us out there that feel the same way. So I send along big hugs and a foot rub. And I don't mean to be presumptuous but I would think that everyone who follows you thinks you have accomplished a great deal. And thank god for that because I would be forever bored at work if it wasn't you. Keep up the good work.

The New Yorker Profiles Nora Roberts; "Women Can't Write About Sex," Says Female Sex Writer.

The pairing of those two headlines made me worry that there was a dangerous decrease in Nora Roberts Awesomeness going on there.

"The Girl's Guide To Comic Con": Headdesk Powers, Activate!; San Diego Comic Con: Not Really For Girls? [Rant].

Instead of dealing with that patronizing BS article I was hoping that there was some news concerning the issue of Comic Con's sexual harassment policies (or rather, the utter lack thereof). Hope we get some closure concerning that.

Re: the turning-thirty-panic: Been there, done that, did not enjoy it in the least. I'd like to tell you it goes away. The bad news is, it doesn't always. The good news is, one can learn to live with it. It's taken some time, but I've come to believe that I am where I am for a reason, even if it's not where I meant to be. My hope and prayer is that you'll come to the same place. It's not such a bad place once you get used to it -- and a good first step toward getting there is realizing how much happiness you bring to others.

Antonio Porchia once said something along the lines of, "When the superficial wearies me, it wearies me so much that I need an abyss in order to rest."

I feel that way when I'm cranky. Like I need a deep, dark hole with no cell and no internets and no way for anyone to find me and make noise in my head. Because even when people are trying to be NICE, the fact is that simply by talking, they are further exacerbating my aggravation. And I snap at them, and feelings get hurt, and I feel badly which just makes me MORE irritable.

So, yes...an abyss. A growlery, for the Dickens fans. I've yet to find one in the real estate pages, but I'm still looking.
