A bit loopy, a bit moody
So tired. Did not sleep at all last night, between the rainstorm and the cramps (again: you needed to know this, I'm sure). Headache now. The kind of long day where nothing actually gets done. Did see my doctor for a medicine check; we're going to raise the Lamictal from 150 to 200 (but leave the other two meds alone). And that was the target dose she thought would be best in the end, so I guess we're finally going to work up to that; it was originally (or primarily?) an anti-seizure drug, so what it's supposed to do is help the bipolar cycle even out. I just know that increasing that particular drug too quickly in the past sent me into a deep tailspin, so I'm going to have to be on the lookout for that. The thing is, I went into a dark patch this spring anyway, so the worst case scenario is that I go into another one--one that I'm expecting and watching for--and the best is that I don't, and it helps regulate the mood cycling better.

Also, there is no chocolate in the house. This vexes me. Thus, in this spirit of sleep-deprived vexation, I bring you a smattering of linkspam that might or might not provoke more discussion than usual, I don't know.

Headshots of the four main Airbender actors in costume. DO NOT SNIPE AT EACH OTHER IN THE COMMENTS OR I WILL PULL THIS JOURNAL OVER AND COME BACK THERE. I'VE DONE IT BEFORE, I'LL DO IT AGAIN.

Emma Watson on the scene I always think of as Voldemort Ships H/Hr: "I'm going to end up kissing both of [the boys] in the last film. Ugh, it's horrible." But! Emma Watson had the hots for Tom Felton.

Meanwhile: LA Times: Michael Gambon "Sees No Point in Reading" Harry Potter Books by JK Rowling. Maybe I'm crazy, but I love the Gambledore. I'm not saying he's Perfect Exact Book Dumbledore; I'm just saying I love him.

Danny Huston Takes the Crown in 'Robin Hood.' Aw, I love him! I feel kind of warm and fuzzy now.

A major deleted death scene from the director's cut DVD of Watchmen. ... a little less fuzzy now.

What Does Ryan Reynolds’ ‘Green Lantern’ Role Mean For ‘Deadpool’ Movie?

TCM's 'Summer Under the Stars' Posters are Phenomenal.

With ‘True Blood,’ HBO Revives Its Fortunes.

Kodi Smit-McPhee Might Be Oskar in the 'Let Me In' Remake.

'The Wolfman' Gets Down On All Fours: "Rumors of reshoots have been dogging the Wolf Man movie for months. Now we know the truth: instead of paying homage to the original film, the film-makers have reshot key scenes to put Benicio Del Toro on all fours. [...] And then he faces off a much fiercer CG-ed up werewolf. Yes that's right the crew that made a movie based on the Wolf Man now think the Wolfman is lame and did bounding reshoots, so the Wolf Man could be scarier and face off with a werewolf."

I'm a lurker here, but I wanted to delurk and thank you for being so open about your struggles with depression. As someone who was diagnosed with bioplar disorder almost two years ago, I appreciate, and even admire to an extent, your willingness to discuss your experiences and help erase some of the stigma that comes with having a mental illness.

And while I'm here: I ♥ the SLoD.

I couldn't care less about the casting of Airbender, but I'm amused that "WTF KNARLY SCAR" on the show has been translated as "a slight rash" in the movie. Dev Patel as a badass is surprisingly attractive though.
havocs_roman From: [info]havocs_roman Date: July 14th, 2009 12:45 pm (UTC) (Link)
Disclaimer: All I know about Avatar (which is very little), I've learned from the comments here and on ONTD, so maybe I'm completely off the mark.

I understand that thing on Dev Patel's face is a burn scar, though? If so, it looks pretty realistic to me. No matter how bad a burn scar is, you can't see every ridge and discolouring half a mile away in real life. As an Avatar-ignoramus, I have no problem looking at Dev Patel's face and thinking "badly burned at some point".

Not to be wanky, but I just do not understand my friends who don't like Gambledore. He has the Dumbledore twinkle! I get some of their complaints, but I think anything they say he does out of character can be contributed to the script and not him.

(My love for him may also come from seeing his Top Gear episode)

I think my biggest problem with Michael Gambdon is not his actual acting.

I just really dont like the way the did his costumes. His hair/beard is not nearly long enough and it looks messy and unkept. And his robes are always that icky gray color that make him look a bit like a homeless person.

I miss Richard Harris's lovely rich colored robes and non-messy beard. It just hasnt been the same without them.

I love the posters for To Catch a Thief and The Philadelphia story. Those are two of my all time favorite movies and if I didn't already own they, I would absolutely be tuning in.

I thought Richard Harris was phenomenal as Dumbledore, and it seemed so fitting to have the former King Arthur have such an important role in the story. I think Gambledore is also awesome and, as Cleo said, mellow. He does a phenomenal job portraying him and upping the stakes in a perfectly cinematic style of the book. I'm the kind of viewer who can watch a movie and appreciate it separately from the source material so as a stand alone Dumbledore, I think he's great.
greedyskunk From: [info]greedyskunk Date: July 14th, 2009 05:58 pm (UTC) (Link)
"I'm the kind of viewer who can watch a movie and appreciate it separately from the source material...."

I'm the exact same way. I have a friend who loves the books, but absolutely WILL NOT watch the movies because of the liberties they took with PoA. (That's my personal fave, mostly due to the visuals. The first two were almost too saccharine for me.) I've tried telling her that the later movies go back to the books, but what can you do?

'K, I've never actually written this on the intertubz, but I'm on Lamictal too, for the same reason (250 mg.) I call it my Wolfsbane Potion. I hope it works for you as well as it works for me: I feel *so much better,* it's unreal. The only thing you have to watch out for is that the generic isn't nearly as good as the brandname stuff. They changed over to the generic sometime last summer and didn't let a lot of people know. My doctor said a lot of her patients ran into trouble after that. My first clue that something wasn't *quite* right was when I almost threw down at a faculty meeting. So make sure it's the right thing and that it's working for you.

Also, I love the Gambledore too, not least because of your Movies in Fifteen Minutes line: "I will be your Groovy New Dumbledore this year." Also, I just plain like Michael Gambon. I think he's a really good actor.

Oh, Emma Watson. I'm not a big fan of her acting, but I can't help shaking my head and smiling affectionately at Those Silly Potter Kids. It's been what, eight years so far with them? Grows a sort of bond, willingly or not.

If recent events in my life prevent me from going to the midnight premiere tomorrow night, for which I already have tickets, I will cut a bitch.
azuresquirrel From: [info]azuresquirrel Date: July 14th, 2009 02:32 pm (UTC) (Link)
Then for your sake and the sake of all bitches, I hope you get to go the the premiere! :)

Agreed on Those Silly Potter Kids. How can you not get attatched to them through all these years? When I watched Sorceror's/Philosopher's Stone this weekend having not seen it in a while, it was such a shock to see them all so *little* and *adorable*! Well, they're still adorable, but in a very different way.

on the thing we apparently need to know

If it helps... Canadian midol is something like double and a half the strength of American midol. I know this because a schoolmate was Canadian, and kept us well supplied.

I think there may be more in it than painkiller, too, because I always felt incredibly happy, energised, and perky on it (whereas US Midol just dulls the pain). So if you have any Canadian friends....?

Hope this helps!

When I was in London I saw Michael Gambon in the show "No Man's Land." On stage he was the craziest, most expressive, most energetic old man I've ever seen.

But after the show, when I was waiting at the stage door, he seemed like the oldest, most broken and exhausted man every to walk the face of the earth.

To this day, I can't tell if that was the true Gambon, or an act as well.
