This is just to say that I feel kind of feverish and worn out and drowsy in that "No matter how much sleep I get, it will never be enough" way, which usually accompanies Coming Down with Something. Honestly, I have decided to blame everything on the rain the boogie the month of August (the Compocalypse occurred ON AUGUST 1ST, like, way to even try to be subtle about it there), so if this is the last dig August wants to get in, that's totally fine with me. If I can just survive until Tuesday, September 1st (FAMOUS LAST WORDS), I'll consider it a win.

Also: My life, now in convenient icon form.

So. Um. Stuff. What are you guys doing this weekend?

Oh, and before y'all start emailing links, yeah, I saw the Volturi pics whatever stuff that came out yesterday. It's all on my FriendFeed and Twitter.

A few things:

I think I gave the wrong impression when I talked about my closet the other day--it's not Confessions of a Shopaholic up in there; it's filled with fifteen (or more) years of cheap junk. The "purses and handbags" are, like, $20 woven satchels or totes from a couple of local places, not $1500 Prada bags or something. And I have a habit of stashing away old odds and ends--the scarf nobody wanted, the ribbons from opened gifts or old dresses, the old green vase cluttering up the kitchen counter, the beads from the necklace that broke--and so most of the accumulated stuff didn't even cost me anything. And many of the "boxes of clippings" are shoeboxes, not gigantic crates or anything. The list was more of an exercise in "Wow, when you put it in words like that, I really do have a lot of ancient and pointless crap I could stand to get rid of," not "Look at my decadent materialism!"

However, if you were interested in the historical costume coloring books, they are from Bellerophon Books and roughly $5 each.

Re: Yesterday's Secret Life: The rocking chair (sitting unheralded in the back of one of the pictures) was one of the smaller reader gift/mail items that I've been holding onto until I can work them in. Also, I don't know why Anna's arm kind of looks jaundiced in the picture. Also-also: two icons!

(I TOLD YOU GUYS The Littlest Edward was tiny, didn't I?)

There seems to be a Team Littlest Edward movement brewing in the Secret Life comments--I particularly enjoyed these two icons. (If you feel the urge to acquire your own Littlest Edward, you can get one from Entertainment Earth through my affiliate account. Put a teacup full of cotton balls or knitting yarn out for him and your stuffed animals ought to be fine.)

A few things up front:

The new Made of Fail podcast is up!

Re: "Christmas in April": After some discussion on the last SLOD entry, I think we've decided that the green pegasus is named Medley, not Melody. Also: damn, y'all like you some My Little Ponies. I had no idea people still loved them so much, and I expected to be roundly mocked for still having mine.

(OMG THE BLUE PONY WITH THE FISH IS SO PRETTY! and also does not have dead, black eyes)

(OMG PWNIES.)

A couple of icons I loved but forgot to mention a while back: In case of explushination, break glass; a fever of 100 and werewolf.

The Made of Fail podcast is up! Aaaaand it's Twilight-themed, because you knew it would be, but we discuss the crazy-ass fan phenomenon as well as the movie--Kevin even threw a clip from the Stephenie Meyer Is Crazy interview in there. OH OH OH also? You know what you get? We were talking about the box office, so I went over to ew.com while we were recording, and you can actually hear the moment I found out they were saying that Twilight made $70M for the weekend (they've since downgraded that number a smidge, to, like, $69.99999M)--you hear this shriek of "JESUS CHRIST! OH MY GOD!" right in the middle of the podcast, and Dayna going "HOW? HOWWWW?"

Also, in the second half, we had a really interesting conversation about the shift from radio airplay to internet distribution in the music industry. Or at least, I thought it was really interesting.

(Audio samples: In which I admit that I am, in fact, a "Twilight blogger" [1:02]; Angel wings and glaucoma [1:40].)

First batch of Twilight/15M icons: there's already 40+ and I haven't even dealt with the meadow yet. (There's a lot of movie stills and caps out there, and I find it really relaxing to faff around making icons, so... indulge me. And take whatever you want, make your own, I'll link them here, two thumbs up, fine holiday fun.) Samples )

So I took my mother to see the movie yesterday (spoilers) )

And then, everything went to hell )

So... that was my Tuesday. I don't think I'll be doing linkspam today (I didn't do it last night either, did I?). It's Thanksgiving week, not a lot of people (well, not a lot of Americans) are online, not a whole lot is happening, and I want to post here in some capacity every day because I've had a perfect-attendance streak for two or three months now, but I'm going to take it easy and try to rest a little. I don't know--I just feel so drained (insert your own vampire joke here) from the last week or so. Not in a bad way--just like I need time to recharge.

(Oh, by the way, I forgot to link this here: enjoy screencaps of Movie!Bella's brief kinky old-fashioned vampire movie fantasy.)

Still tired. I mean, I know what it is--I'm not getting enough sleep. Dammit. I just really need some kind of rest before I get back to True Blood recaps, is the problem. Even so, I'm still feeling very mellow re: Twilight in Fifteen Minutes being done and people seeming to like it and not eating my face. Anyway, got a batch of Twilight icons done last night--this one (points up) is the only one using Arial so far, but I like it. I'm kind of constricted by what I can find pictures of (this is why I'm desperately searching for a bootleg--to screencap it), but I'll work it out somehow.

Meanwhile, my mother woke up me up at seven all like WHAT IS THE EARLIEST SHOWING FOR TWILIGHT GO FIND IT AND BUY US TICKETS WE WILL HAVE TO GET THERE EARLY I AM GOING OUT TO BUY CORNBREAD. It's going to be a Very Sparkly Turkeymas here at the Jones house.

(Just when I thought we'd run out of ways to play Horrify the Twilight Noob: HTTN, Movie Edition. Seriously, I did not make that line up. No, really, I didn't.)

So, anyway. That's what I'll be doing today: trying to catch about an hour's nap, do a little work, and then go see the movie again with my mother, who keeps telling me that I have to "tell [her] why it's stupid." Um, I'm pretty sure you're going to be able to figure this out for yourself, Mom.

I intended to be a lazy bastard today, but... that ended up not happening. So I'm still tired, and I'm only going to give you the choicest linkspam because, again: tired. And also, my inbox is on fire.

(But it's a good tired. I've still got more work to do, but I cannot tell you how mellow I feel now that I've got "Twilight in Fifteen Minutes"--something I've worried about writing for six months now--behind me.)

Big money! No Whammies!: "Also, sources say stars Robert Pattinson, 22, and Kristin Stewart, 18, will get huge salary boosts from the $2 million each earned for 'Twilight' -- reportedly $10 million more, per film, plus a nice percentage of the future movies' box-office take." Where I come from, we call this "hazard pay."

Quick, easily skippable Twi-spam )

Oh, and by the way, I have to give a shoutout to the Geektress podcast, which discusses Twilight in general for a while and my recaps in particular for a bit, as well as a number of comics and TV shows.

Regular linkspam! More! )

Welcome, MSNBC readers! This is the kind of entry I wrote--still do, obviously--before Twilight ate my brain. I also post the occasional movie parody at [info]m15m and put out a book of them overseas a couple of years ago. (Yes, I have promised to write "Twilight in Fifteen Minutes" or die trying.) Feel free to friend the journal, comment or lurk as you please, and enjoy your stay!

(Uh, y'all? I went back and looked at one of my old entries, and... the userpic wasn't mine. I'm not even sure who was in the picture. It seems to have eaten my favorite Reiko Shimizu icon--I think I've heard about this kind of glitch before? I'm just saying... if you see an icon that looks out of the ordinary for my style... that's why. It's a glitch. I don't usually have guys in my icons, for example.)

(It might have been Jackson Rathbone? Even Livejournal glitches know that I write about Twilight? I'm kind of scared now?)

I keep meaning to post variations on this story and forget, so: Ancient Vampire Killing Kit Sells For 15K. (How is the garlic still fresh?) For those of y'all who remember the Black Ribbon novel I'm still working on--man, I would love one of those.

Well, I had a nice long sleeps this morning. Got up, got a nice big pumpkin for the Third Annual Valkyrie/Dr. Typo Pumpkin Carving Party, and then wandered around Publix buying cheap-ass shit I didn't really need, but there you go. I did pick up a really tasty-smelling "body mist" with "the seductive scent of cherry blossom, red apple pomegranate [this is apparently a single fruit now ], delicious peach and hints of pink lily." Also, it may be chock full of glitter. I may totally be planning to wear it to a certain movie next month. These reports, however, cannot be confirmed. I will spend the rest of the afternoon baking cookies for the party (don't get too impressed--the dough's from the store), playing with my favorite purple eyeshadow, and trying to convince myself to work in the few hours left. I will probably not succeed.

And because I feel really loopy: in today's flashback, you can learn the paternity of my thumb-sized baby. (He never did come to help me rescue it from my sister or the cat, either.)

ETA: Oh--what I ended up doing was sprucing up some of the silly wiki pages that I'm linking in the footnotes, which meant the Anna Dollerious page needed an overhaul, which then meant that I realized I never did icons for the last Secret Life of Dolls entry. Thus, here we are: Eowyn and Ellowyne throw down )

Hmm... today's Journal Birthmonth Flashback? Let's go with Tiny Moist Hand.

Tried to record a Halloween story reading; made one tiny stumble--but at a key line, unfortunately--so I can't put that take out. But I haven't been able to get the right voice back on any subsequent takes. I tried to warm up by desk-dancing singing, but somehow, that just didn't do it. I'll just have to keep trying, I guess.

Didn't have the most productive day ever, but soldiered away at the Prestige footnotes until finally I just said, "This is as done as it's gonna get right now, even though there are a couple that aren't ready, but screw it, I need to move on to something else." The POTO footnotes are going to be a lot of work to finish, I think (I've been skipping around the whole time), but at least it'll be something different.

(Trying BPAL's Dorian--which has been in my little storage chest for far too long--as a room scent. Not really sure it's working for me in that capacity. Need a bottle of High John the Conqueror, actually--my sample vial of that got me through the last three months of writing the 15M book, to be honest.)

More True Blood recap icons!

Today's Journal Birthmonth Flashback: Let's be lazy and link to The Happening in Fifteen Minutes from earlier this summer, since it's out on DVD today. I highly recommend that you at least Netflix it or something, if only to shock and amaze yourself with the number of things I did not, in fact, make up. (Extramarital dessert... the mood ring... "cheese and crackers"... the trees rustling on the phone... Hot Dog Time...)

Made some more Secret Life of Dolls icons. I'm to the point where I can't really imagine anyone wanting to use them (you're free to, obviously), but I still like making them. They're like tiny little movies! If movies had lots of text and still photographs! Uh. Read more... )

You know how many good movie trailers just came out? I'm putting them above the cut, that's how many.

Trailers and clips: 'Revolutionary Road' Trailer Online; New 'Day the Earth Stood Still' Footage Sunday; Witness Meryl Streep's Reign of Terror in 'Doubt' Trailer; Must Watch: Tom Tykwer's 'The International' Trailer With Clive Owen! ('International' Trailer Creates Little 'Interest' [See, Because It's About a Bank]; The 'International' Trailer Uses a Scene From 'Ghost Rider'!); Clint Eastwood's 'Changeling' Trailer With Angelina Jolie; First Look: Gilliam's 'Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus' Featurette; 'Two Lover's trailer; Exclusive Clip: 'Rent: Filmed Live on Broadway'; Get Bloody Musical with the Trailer for 'Repo! The Genetic Opera'; 'Feast 2' Trailer Is A Pretty Little Massacre.

Okay, I didn't say that they were all good.

(Also, [info]nerves_patterns says thanks for your help with her project--it seems to have gone really well.)

So a couple of people asked for Secret Life of Dolls icons, and I thought, well, I don't have a digital camera to take posed pictures with, and my copy of Photoshop hates me and won't let me use 90% of my fonts so I'm mostly stuck with Arial these days, so... would it actually be possible to make anything decent? Well, I can't turn down a challenge, so...

Via [info]quitesometime, holy shit: Two Blog Entries You Should Be Reading. "Just when you're ready to break up with the Internet, forever, and take back the lingerie you bought it, you stumble on things that remind you that it's sort of good for something." I made a Time magazine blogger believe in the internet again, y'all. What have I done?

Speaking of the Breaking Dawn recap, I got bored and fished out some digital scrapbooking background samples (mostly from Scrapgirls, I think), skimmed over the Twilight recaps, and started making text icons. They would be fancier, except that my broke-ass copy of Photoshop 6.0 has decided it doesn't want to load 90% of my fonts. Please, if you have moar skillz or more cooperative software, feel free to make your own. (And please use icons with profanity judiciously, y'all.) POW!

Speaking of speaking of Twilight--we gotta get this Harry Potter thing out of the way, because THE PLOT HAS THICKENED. Damn, it's like Single White Vampire up in here )

So Shelby seems to be fine, although she managed to scare the ever-living hell out of us first. The bloodwork came back (I guess... it was the kind that doesn't take very long? I don't know) and apparently she's totally fine, everything checked out. I'm hoping she doesn't just, you know, fall over again, but given that she recovered after about ten or fifteen minutes and was "prancing around the vet's office," as my mother put it, we're going to try to be a little calmer if it happens again.

Re: Robert Pattinson's hair: I have to show off my new icon here--[info]wildthyme made two for me here, and I put them together as a gif file because I couldn't choose. Also, this just in: THERE WILL BE BLOOD SPARKLING.

Re: Comic-Con: There are updates pouring in, so I'm pretty much going to do a linkspam now--yes, at this hour, because they're piling up like hell. By order of the Redundant Department of Redundancy, I'm going to omit the phrase "Comic-Con" from headlines when possible, so just assume any news link relates to the convention. Because all except, like, two of them do. Also, I'm going to format things a little differently and do everything alphabetically by movie title, so that if there's something in particular you're interested in, you can scan downwards instead of wading through a random list. Go go go! )

Two things that came up in the comments of the previous entry:

1. Ellen Page IS Jane Eyre (thanks, [info]elbeonore). "Alison Owen of Ruby Films, who most recently produced 'The Other Boleyn Girl,' is working with BBC Films to develop the new adaptation of Bronte's classic 19th century romance." OH HELL NO.

2. This thread:

[info]crumpeteer: I'm waiting for the action figures. But really they won't have much action except to mope around and pine over Bella.

[info]cleolinda: Edward would definitely have Sparkle Action, though.

[info]crumpeteer: Most embarrassing moment in vampire lore EVER.

[info]cleolinda: I hereby swear (holds up hand) that if I write a 15M for this movie, I will try my damnedest to work in the line, "I have begun to doubt your commitment to Sparkle Motion."

[info]crumpeteer: And I'll want an icon of that.

[info]cleolinda: Done!

Not posting much tonight--my right hand is aching for some reason, the muscles or tendons or something between my thumb and forefinger. Probably strained it from overuse at the computer--took advantage of the weekend to do some more research. So, kind of hurts; giving substantial posting a day off or so.

However, the world is still busily discussing the Great Dumbledore Outing of 2007 ("Outing gives Potter passages new meaning"), and also, there are icons, because it didn't happen if you didn't make icons. Behind the cut, mine )

And to finish, from [info]callmecaito: "I'm going back and compiling Dumbledore quotes, and rewriting them so that he outs himself! Because his gayness is really that important, he really should have worked it into all his discussions, really." Example: At that moment, Harry fully understood for the first time why people said Dumbledore was the only wizard Voldemort had ever feared. Voldemort... was homophobic.
