The Les Miserables movie is getting Amanda Seyfried for Cosette ("In the musical, the character is the daughter of Fantine, who is set to be played by Anne Hathaway") and Taylor Swift has been offered Eponine, to the consternation of all Twitter. "Also already attached to the film are Hugh Jackman (as Jean Valjean), Helena Bonham Carter, Russell Crowe, and Sacha Baron Cohen," and director Tom Hooper wants to film them singing it live, rather than lip-syncing, and all I know about Les Mis is that all the theater kids were obsessed with it and Valjean like steals a loaf of bread or something so Javert chases him endlessly for umpteen thousand years because sometimes justice is not just, so if someone drops that reference I'll get it, and nothing else. Well, a friend of mine used to play "Master of the House" a lot. Wait, I think I remember Claire Danes in a huge bonnet. Okay, I'm reading the summary on Wikipedia now, and I'm getting "French uprising, not the Revolution like I thought; pretty girls suffer." So, what I'm saying is, I should have a blessedly uncomplicated movie experience, free of any previous stagings. Huzzah!

Meanwhile: LITTLE GIRL IN A CROCHETED YODA HAT FOR YOU TO BUY (the hat, not the girl) (I mean, I guess you can make an offer?).

I am tired. *flop*

The only reason I will still consider going to see Les Mis is because Aaron Tveit is in it and I have an unreasonably massive crush on him. His voice is pure sex. But I can't decide whether his awesome balances out TSWIFT AS EPONINE *headdesk*

Sorry, I have ~feelings~ about musical theater.

Understood. (I'm a Tveit fan myself.) :-)

I actually like Taylor -- but I don't want her to do this BECAUSE I like her. I like her for what she is: a cute young girl who can turn a phrase and sing a catchy tune. But this role is all wrong for her, and will bring her nothing but backlash -- as we're already seeing. It needs a belter, and she's anything but that. I hope for her sake as well as everyone else's that it's only a rumor.

I honestly have nothing against her as a singer. I have admittedly rocked out to some of her songs when they come on the radio. But even for a role that was originated by someone with a non-traditional voice (yeah, I prefer Frances to Lea- I've come to turns with my blasphemy), I'm not at all convinced she can bring the power the role needs. And even if she does it'll need to be beyond perfect for everyone not to loathe her. Not to mention we have no clue if she can act or not.

I'm pretty sure she CAN'T bring the power the role needs -- and that, as I mentioned, is coming from a fan! Breathy is her thing, not powerful.

I'm partial to Frances myself. Too bad they didn't make this ages ago, and just use her.

Well, she was in that Valentine's Day movie, if you want to check up on her acting.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. If she is actually cast, I may have to force myself to watch it.

I got to see Tveit in "Catch Me If You Can" last spring. In answer to your question: his awesome TOTALLY balances out Taylor Swift as Eponine. :D
