SDCC PSA OMG

I had a massive linkspam (with things not about the show, even) ready to go, and then other things happened and I got busy (I've completely fallen behind on the Pacific Rim discussion, sorry about that) and now I have to revise it again both to add things and to weed out the obsolete/time-sensitive things. So I'm just going to table that for a moment and give you the immediate stuff:

SAN DIEGO COMIC-CON! ppyajunebug will be at the Hannibal panel tonight (6:45 pm West Coast time?) and live-blogging it, if all goes well, under the tag "pannibal." (That's specifically for her tumblr; this will take you to the Tumblr-wide tag.) Which is also the hashtag the official NBC Hannibal twitter is using--#pannibal, because we are the fandom that rhymes whenever possible.

@DireRavenstag: I might have to stop by #SDCC, though. I mean, all that delusion and dementia in one giant room? How could I miss that?

@DireRavenstag: If even one fucking elf tries to ride me, tho.... #NotYourPartyMoose #SDCC

Also, I am personally putting money on Lee Pace being officially announced for Mason Verger, given this tweet, although David Tennant is an extremely likely guess, given that they've also talked about having him on.

@DireRavenstag: I see you eyeing me, half-assed Thranduil cosplayer. Don't even think about it. #SDCC

Unfortunately, the Emmy nominations were a gigantic whiff this morning. Even the tech categories. Also, I haven't even watched Orphan Black yet, and I'm appalled that they ignored Tatiana Maslany.

@HitFixDaniel: It's like this: None of the shows nominated for cinematography are bad, but none of them are "Hannibal."

Meanwhile, Miss Freddie has posted interviews with both food stylist Janice Poon, who is delightful ("He is an international man of mystery and there are many styles of cuisine that he can threaten you with") and Lara Jean Chorostecki, who is ACTUAL FREDDIE, THIS IS NOT A DRILL. Seriously, both interviews are amazing.

Meanwhile-meanwhile... character posters for NBC Dracula. That's a thing that's happening. I think my two favorite reblog comments so far are "Lisa Frank Vampires Okay Sure Lets Go With That" and "Holy shit look at Dracula’s kaleidoscope myspace wolves." Guys... I promised to recap it if the universe would get Hannibal renewed for us. I'm scared, guys. It's dark and cold and badly Photoshopped in here.

While you are waiting to hear about various SDCC shenanigans going into the weekend, may I suggest A Matter of Taste's latest episode on Manhunter? I'll be on next week for the Silence of the Lambs episode, which we recorded a couple of nights ago. }:D

Having watched the trailer and read a few articles, I really need to ask: Are they making Dracula an anti-hero? Or will he be a proper villain?

A villain protagonist would be great, but would take away the mystery...

Yeah, I'm going with the 'Not Sure If Want' approach.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around the synopsis that talks about Dracula wanting to get revenge on whoever made him immortal in the first place.

My brain can't quite grasp the concept of Dracula - wanting revenge for being turned into Dracula.

I just. I don't even know. I'm not sure I can even. At first I thought that a Hannibal show in 2013 was the worst idea possible in this particular universe, so I'm trying to stay open to miracles here.

I just saw the whole panel (it's on youtube)- boy am I glad Hugh only got one question about Hannibal/Will (well two, there was the question about how they'll fix the relationship- GUYS, IT'S OVER, THEY'RE NOT GETTING BACK TOGETHER EVER AGAIN, OK?). But Bryan is so adorkable, I can't help smiling watching him talk. And Hugh is cute and adorable and David Slade needs to learn to talk into the microphone, I couldn't understand a single word he said, unfortunately.

The Emmys are a complete joke and if I think about it too much, I'll go into a murderous rage. Their nominations are either the same people over and over, or people they like that don't deserve it/famous movie stars that get kudos for being on tv.

I haven't watched Orphan Black yet (I'm planning to, I keep hearing about it) and I'm also upset that they snubbed Tatiana. Nothing for 'The Americans' as well? And even if Bryan/David/Mads/Hugh were a long shot, nothing for the score/cinematography/title cards? Not a single technical nomination? So pissed.

I'm off to read Miss Freddie's interviews. Did you see the small bit of Hannibal's gag reel? It's awesome, Mads and Laurence killed me. I wish the DVD were coming out a few days earlier, because my mom is leaving the States on September 22 and I want that DVD! Oh well, my Grandma can always bring it in November (too far away).

I saw those. I have no words. I didn't have high hopes for this show to begin with, but they keep finding ways to lower my expectations even further. Good luck with that.

I'll check out 'a Matter of Taste' later, when I have some free time, sounds like fun.

The Americans got a nomination for Margo Martindale and...something else. I forget.

Right, I actually remember seeing that Margo got nominated (she's too awesome to not be, let's be honest) but it didn't get any main nominations- acting, series, writing, etc. And while I don't think the first season was perfect, it was a very good show with lots of solid acting around the board. And Justified never gets the love it deserves (except that one year that breaking Bad wasn't eligible, so they threw a nomination at Timothy Olyphant and Walton Goggins).

I'm going back and replying to comments on this entry, but yeah, on the next one I have a panel roundup and something about the gag reel. "MOTIIIIVE!" gives me life, tbh.

I agreed to go on "A Matter of Taste" without listening to it--Ian is one of y'all, actually--so I was very glad to catch up and find out that I had not made a terrible mistake. The one I link to in the next entry, the "Rôti" episode, was particularly entertaining, IMO. I enjoy listening to other people's entertainment-related pain, apparently.

I'm on the way there now. The "MOTIIIVE!" and Hugh's "I'm out!" with finger guns, so precious.

I'm a bit ADD and it's hard for me to just listen to audio stuff without the visuals, I end up surfing or doing something and then I can't remember what people are saying and find out I zoned out. If they're not that long, I'll definitely try and give it a try.

oh I missed your jokes; the Dracula posters just make me sad for JRM. This is not how things should have gone post-Velvet Goldmine.

I actually think the Dracula character posters are kinda cool? It's entirely possible that all the taste has been melted out of my brain, but they actually really caught my eye. And given the whole not-quite-steampunk-but-Victorian-science-yay angle of the show, the kaleidoscope thing actually makes sense?

Though, what's up with the bees/wasps on the Mina and Jonathan posters? (I'm guessing that's Jonathan. Mostly because I know who everyone else is, and Jonathan is doomed to be the nonentity in every version, ever, no matter how bizarre.) INQUIRING MINDS WANT TO KNOW. Even if they will probably end up being sorry they asked.

I'm all kinds of trepidatious about the show, but holding out hope for Made Of Gorgeous Crack And Exuberant Preposterousness.

I think the characters in the posters are Dracula, Mina, Lucy, Renfield and Van Helsing. I don't know what's going on with the bees, either. The thing that makes me nervous is that I can't tell if this is a great idea that just looks a little cheap and wacky on the posters, or if this is exactly what we're going to get.

Oh hey, she called it Oeuf.

*throws up hands*

I give up, I just really do. They doubled down so hard on the "Ceuf" thing that I just don't even know. I guess the final test will be seeing what the episode's called on the DVDs.

That Dracula is NO. Seriously, I can see they're going for pretty boy vampire, but that fuzz on his lip makes him look immature. No sexy ageless undead here, folks!

Must go rewatch Gary Oldman.
