So I went to Best Buy yesterday and got my new headphones... and a printer... and shitload of ink. If you've been keeping up with my computer purchases--and really, why would you?--you'll remember that a printer was part of the deal. Well, I ended up reconsidering, so I canceled the printer order, which was shipping separately anyway. Again with the semi-thrifty streak: laying down a lot of money hurts, but I'd rather buy a really nice piece of equipment now and get several years' use out of it. Also, my old printer is a fairly crappy inkjet that can't do shit, and my scanner is a bit behind the times with the quality and all as well. So I went over to the printer section at Best Buy and picked myself out a $300 printer/scanner/copier/fax/food processor/carwash/missile launcher, and they were also having a sale on ink wherein you bought a ton and got some free, and boy did writing that check hurt. But I got free ink and a good all-in-one machine that'll take up less space and actually enable me to print my own documents instead of running around the house looking for a relative with ink and paper. Also, my headphones enable me to hear out of both ears now. Rock.

(Half my friends list: "Given the crap you listen to... why is it so important to be able to hear it?")

Unfortunately, I can't use my headphones, because I have to keep an ear out for UPS on the off chance that my computer does arrive today or tomorrow. As much as I want it all to get here, it'd really be better if it didn't until Wednesday, because I have a paper I have to write tomorrow and would rather not have the temptation of going ahead and setting everything up and possibly screwing it up, too.

Also: Yay! Vladimir is home! He decided to let me try to guess whose autograph he got me--"To [My Actual Name]" and everything--and I was able to guess it, and it turns out it's the director of one of my most favoritest movies ever (a Cary Grant movie, no less). And it also looks like Algoritam (the publisher he translates for) has coughed up enough money for him to come visit this Christmas, which is good. I'm hoping I'll be able to finish my book--since it looks like I'm getting more time to do it--in time to get the rest of my advance and buy lots of Christmas presents with it.

Which reminds me--for no good reason, I guess--I also picked up Peter Pan on DVD while I was out. It's a pretty crappy DVD, in terms of the extras (Look! Two minutes of time-lapse footage on the pirate ship set! Now I REALLY know what it was like to be there filming OMG!), but then, I may be spoiled by the LOTR movies. And the Matrix movies. And the Harry Potter movies. And just about any other movie ever released on DVD in the last five years. And yet... I have a feeling the movie itself will get a lot of play in the Jones household, as Sister Girl went from "Ew, I don't like the Peter Pan kid, he's too young" to *drool* in ten minutes, and, as previously stated, I maintain that Hook is the sexor.

Speaking of pirates, I know y'all are going to help me observe Talk Like a Pirate Day on Sunday. It was tons of fun last year; I even wrote the whole Digest news update that way. My only request is that folks try not to quote Pirates of the Caribbean wholesale, you know? It's time to branch out beyond "Savvy?," y'all.
