Well, a few creatures were stirring, I guess

Dear God, I'm tired. But I don't know if I'll be around much tomorrow--uh, today?--so I should go ahead and give y'all an update on The Shelf. The girls have all been getting along pretty well. Sister Girl bought a huge lot of reject/discount Pancake Meow stuff a while back, so I brought them some pie and they've all been bonding. ("I don't know what's supposed to be wrong with this," said Purple Arwen, eating a forkful of meringue. "Uneven pie crust is still pie crust and pie crust is good. ") Anna and Cross-Dressing Elizabeth have been getting along surprisingly well, actually--I came in the other day and found them polishing various weapons together and trading war stories
("... and then they made me their king"), so that's a relief. And I really want Eowyn to get along with them, and it's not that she doesn't, but... I'm afraid she feels like a third wheel, even though she has just as much in common with Elizabeth as anyone. I mean, they all have fun swordfighting together, don't get me wrong. It's just... Eowyn's been kind of quiet lately. She's finished reading Twilight and has moved on to New Moon, and I'm not sure she's liking it. "Well, I mean, Edward leaves like five pages in and that sucks," she said right off the bat, and I realized only too late that... maybe the whole Edward/Bella/Jacob triangle is not the kind of thing that Eowyn's going to enjoy reading.

And then, in the middle of this, a package came yesterday morning.

Happy Chrismukkanzaawalidan!

Remember how tired I was? Yeah, I don't think I slept at all. If I did drop off, I don't remember it. I'm probably going to pass out in three or four hours, but I've got to get through the extended family lunch first. It's small and we're close, though, so it's not a huge ordeal or anything.

So, to repeat the question from Thanksgiving--if you are celebrating holiday(s) today, what foods are you nomming? And if presents were involved, what did you get that you really liked? Or, for that matter, what did you give that you really liked? I'm very pleased with the present I've put together for my cousin, for example (I can't say what yet, because she might actually read this before she gets here). As for me, I got that star locket (in gold tone) and the bracelet that I had really wanted from Sweet Romance. Oh, and Beedle the Bard! It's funny, I wasn't even interested in that until people started talking about it and I realized there was more to it than just a couple of fairy tales. (I mean, if nothing else, there's an epic burn.) So that's probably what I'll be doing today after I emerge from a short coma: reading.

I also got something else, probably my favorite present of all, that we will speak of later. (No, it is not male. Speaking of which--whom?--we haven't seen Purple Arwen since he arrived. No one is terribly surprised.)

Meanwhile, I wish you booze and joy. I just really wish I had some pomegranate juice now.

Still exhausted

Quick linkspam, much of it sad:

Harold Pinter, Whose Silences Redefined Drama, Dies at 78.

Eartha Kitt, a Seductive Legend of Stage and Screen, Dies at 81.

'Sopranos' actor 'Johnny Cakes' dead in suicide.

Fox Owns Rights to ‘Watchmen’ Says Judge; WATCHMEN RULING: Where Was Larry? I'm hoping this means that this is just a massive shakedown (legally justified or not) and WB will have to pay Fox a shitload of money, rather than Fox preventing or usurping the distribution of the movie.

Disney Abandons ‘Narnia’ Franchise, Third Film Now In Doubt; How Disney Killed Off Its Billion-Dollar 'Narnia' Franchise. And I have to say, they're absolutely right. Between the release date and the advertising, Disney has no one to blame for the box office performance of Prince Caspian but themselves.

Neil Gaiman finally gets his own Coraline box; Metafilter discusses the campaign, and more than one commenter points out that it actually may be more beneficial for the bloggers, as people reading general overviews of the boxes are discovering lesser-known blogs and sites (mine being one of them).

Because it made me laugh: Official Twilight Perfume at Hot Topic. $48 a bottle! Only one per customer, please! Guess what it smells like. NO, GUESS. Also, they apparently ripped off the Nina Ricci bottle like whoa. I mean LIKE WHOA.

To cheer you up, I bring you something I've been saving for a Christmas post since Sister Girl first sent it to me in October. Just watch it all the way through:
