A quick reminder: I have a fairly good idea of what I'm going to be writing, or trying to write, this year as far as m15m goes, both for the comm and for a potential book. I don't really want to make a public checklist because I tend to psych myself out with that kind of thing; it's better for me to just quietly finish stuff and then pop up with it afterwards.

So: granted, you will not know exactly what I'm going to do. That said, please don't link me to other parodies. Like, of anything, just to be safe. If it's something I've already posted or published then yeah, that movie is pretty safe. But if it's anything that I might ever write about, don't link it or quote it to me. Potter Pals, or the Jerry the Frog stuff, or anything like that. Can't read it. It's a legal issue, you guys. It's like JK Rowling being accused of "stealing" someone's idea because it just happened to be in a fanfic they sent her that she might or might not have actually read. Not that I'm anywhere near the same planet as JK Rowling's league (or even in the same writing genre, for that matter), but it's the best analogy, I think. If you link me to it, I'm not going to read it anyway--I can't--but I won't be able to prove empirically I didn't, either. So, seriously. Don't do it.

And, for the record, it's not like I'm using a particularly unique format. I can't stop you from writing your own parodies. I get a little antsier about the actual phrase "Movies in Fifteen Minutes," but I don't know what my rights regarding that are. I mean, you can't copyright titles. But writing your own thing in my style is not something I encourage. I'm just saying, don't come to me and think I'm going to be all excited about it. It makes me anxious, legally speaking, more than anything. I appreciate the sentiment behind imitation, but--write your own thing in your own style, y'all. I mean, I won't be able to read that, either, to protect both of us, but anything in your own style is a Good Thing and something I wholly support from a distance where I can't see it. An imitation of my style? Can't support that, so don't tell me about it.

Why? Two words for you: Kaavya Viswanathan. That's what I'm trying to protect you from.* Two more: Larry Potter. That's what I'm trying to protect myself from.

* The "I internalized it!" version of that, I mean. I'm not so lame that I'm consciously going to cobble my book together out of other people's stuff. But it is possible for a phrase to stick in your subconscious, you know?

Consolatory linkspam for having to listen to all of this:

Wait, The Tudors on Showtime what? Seriously?

Henry Cavill ....  Charles Brandon, Duke of Suffolk
Sam Neill ....  Cardinal Thomas Wolsey
Jeremy Northam ....  Sir Thomas More
Jonathan Rhys Meyers ....  King Henry VIII

Holy shit, you are kidding me. I would so die of pretty costume recap this. (Although... JRM is pretty much the physical opposite of Henry, isn't he?) In fact, now that the second season of Lost is safely over, I'm thinking of going back to the season one DVDs and picking up where I left off near the end with those recaps. Because, y'know, I feel bad leaving that unfinished. When are the S2 DVDs coming out?

Speaking of Tudors: oh sweet Lord, a Boleyn Girl movie. I haven't heard of Keira Knightley attached to this before, so there's no telling if it's true or not. Even so.

P.S. Here's what Ewan and Dame Judi were actually doing. Y'know, in the lobster and tomato picture from the previous entry.
