'Pirates' sails off with foreign box office honors. And apparently it hasn't even opened in France or Japan yet.

What kind of Pirate are you? I'm a tie between Sinbad and Will Turner, it seems.

New pics: Kate Winslet in Romance and Cigarettes, which I believe is a musical, IIRC.

The Amazing Spider-Man 3 Poster. Since I copied this headline verbatim, I'm not sure if they're saying that the poster is amazing or that the title actually involves the word "Amazing." And the poster, while good... isn't really that amazing.

Mike Hammer Creator Mickey Spillane Dies. A writing sample: "There wasn't any kitten-softness about her now. She was big and she was lovely, with the kind of curves that made you want to turn around and have another look. The lush fullness of her lips had tightened into the faintest kind of snarl and her eyes were the carnivorous eyes you could expect to see in the jungle watching you from behind a clump of bushes." I don't know about you, but I really want to watch Sin City again now.

Dougray Scott in negotiations to join Desperate Housewives. Dammit, now I might actually have to watch the show.

Scarlett Johansson to be The Other Boleyn Girl. Apparently Natalie Portman (who really is playing Anne) and Keira Knightley as backbiting, rivalrous sisters was just an idea too ahead of its time.

DAMN YOUUUUUU PETER JACKSON! You already have all our money! We don't have anymore!

Yeah, so, the "Emily" blog has turned out to be an ad for Court TV.

Genuine cast makes Sci Fi's "Superhero" superior. "You can't fake this kind of passion. Sure, producers buffed up the homemade costumes and makeup for the cameras, but these people came to the open 'Superhero' auditions in various cities with alter egos in place. They're battling not for money or worldly goods but rather immortality. The winner gets a comic book rendition of their character penned (breathlessly!) by Lee and published by Dark Horse Comics, plus a guest shot on a Sci Fi original series. Excelsior, indeed."

Ex-Savage Garden singer comes out, marries boyfriend.

Joel Siegel walks out on Clerks II. Loudly. And Kevin Smith is pissed. (I'm not much of a Kevin Smith fan, so I'm sort of watching this one from the sidelines in amused indifference.)

The Fantastic Four and the Silver Surfer: the official FF sequel title.

Speaking of Jessica Alba...

tothemax at Snarkfest: "Gawker is running a few pieces on Crazy Us Weekly Guy™, a guy who "claimed that he communicated with God, his soulmate was a Hollywood actress, and his goal was to be #2 at Us Weekly so that he might present EIC Janice Min with his new 'paradigm' for the success of the magazine". Immediately realizing that the guy was, well, crazy, the Gawker staff did the only sensible thing they could do: they asked for the details of CUWG's plan and then printed them. So far, Parts I and II are up. This stuff is funny crazy for a bit, but then quickly delves into 'Jessica, hire an army to protect you' scary." Short version: CUWG (™ Gawker) uses Crazy Math (™ me) to prove that he's destined to be with Jessica Alba. And he shows aaaaaaall his work.
