Wednesday night, touching books

I wasn't in a bad mood, exactly, but I haven't had the best day (tension headache, tension in my jaw, the realization that the premature grey/white hairs are spreading and not forming a Rogue streak). And then somewhere along the way, we had a sudden rainstorm and then I got into a much chattier mood, as evidenced by all the commentary below. Maybe it's the atmospheric pressure, I don't know.

'Big Bird' costume creator Kermit Love dies at 91.

MasterCard Pays $1.8 Billion to Amex. They charged it, of course.

Teen facing tough odds: 'I touch books now.' Wait, he... what?

Norwegian Boy Survives Moose Attack Thanks to World of Warcraft.

God Refuses to Spring For Money-Man Raffaello Follieri's $21 Million Bail [Holy Shit].

Why Publishers Should Blog.

'Neuromancer,' As Performed in a Missouri Barn by Hippies and Baptists.

As a follow-up to the Yip Yip Halloween costume link: The Yip Yips From Mars Will Haunt Your Nightmares.

'Cloverfield', 'Enchanted', 'Sweeney Todd' Win Saturn Awards.

Images: Hi-res versions of 'The Duchess' pics; Beautiful Japanese Poster for Fernando Meirelles' 'Blindness'; Matt Damon on the set of 'The Informant' (... oh dear); More 'G.I. Joe' Banners, Important Parts Marked in Red; 'Death Defying Acts' Poster Premiere (wait, aren't there already a ton of posters for this (scroll down)? Is it ever coming out? Because it's about Houdini, and you know me and magicians...) 'Ghost Town' Poster Disappoints Me, Gervais.

Trailers and clips: 7 'Journey to the Center of the Earth' Clips Up; Worth Watching - June 25: 'In Search of a Midnight Kiss' Trailer; The Trailer for 'RocknRolla' is Here (okay, two days ago I'd never heard of this movie, and now all of a sudden it's a media onslaught?); Watch Out for the 'Pink Eye'!; New 'Quarantine' Posters; Clip from Josh Hartnett's 'August'; Teeny Decepticon Makes Sam Witwicky Scream Like A Girl [Transformers 2]; 'Doctor Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog' trailer (it "stars Neil Patrick Harris as Dr. Horrible, Nathan Fillion as Captain Hammer, Felicia Day as Penny and a cast of dozens" and is "the story of a low-rent super-villain, the hero who keeps beating him up, and the cute girl from the laundromat he’s too shy to talk to").

trailer_spot: Eagle Eye, Sixty Six, Stone Angel, In Search of a Midnight Kiss, Mummy 3.

Rapturous Rolling Stone review of 'The Dark Knight'; The Joker's Viral Game Continues: New Edition of The Ha Ha Ha Times; The Gotham National Bank Makes A ‘Dark Knight’ Deposit At MTV; Bale talks to 'Parade' about Batman and coping with success. The pictures here are hilariously cheesy, by the way. I don't know why they're making him throw a football or, for that matter, who he's throwing it to. The dog, maybe? "I'm Welsh, why am I throwing an American football?" "I don't know, man, I'm just hired by the hour. Woof, and so forth."

The Guardian gleefully pans 'Wanted.' That said, this is the first review I've seen that wasn't like, "OMG SO MUCH FUN." I think the best summary of the whole thing was, yet again, The Daily Show the other night. Stewart: "It's one of those movies that shouldn't work, BUT IT DOES!" McAvoy: "I KNOW!" Also: 'Wanted' Man Common Talks 'Justice League', 'Terminator 4'; More Half Naked Real Life Superheroes To Come In 'Wanted 2'; Wanted's McAvoy Talks Contradictions. Is Angelina Jolie just not doing interviews? Because I was going to say, "or are they just not posting them," but... come on, no one's turning down a Pregnant Media Supercouple Interview.

(James McAvoy has second thoughts about keeping his trousers on. "McAvoy's hitman character emerges from a paraffin bath after removing bullets from his body and even the actor has trouble believing he'd go through all that with his jeans on. 'The fact that I have a pair of jeans on is kind of stretching the realms of reality, but I had a scene hugging Terrence Stamp shortly after and I so did not want to do that naked.' ")

Stars Choose Sides as SAG Strike Apocalypse Descends; Actors Brolin, Mortensen back Screen Actors Guild; Actors' Impasse Could Affect Comic-con (Noooooooo! I am counting on Sister Girl's boyfriend to meet awesome people, just so I can feel fractionally awesome by knowing him!).

Snyder Cutting 'Watchmen'; 'Watchmen' Trailer with 'The Dark Knight' & Nite Owl's Ship at Comic Con?! EEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. ("Can you just ask him to touch the ship for me? When no one's looking? Just a little? No one else has to know.")

Two X-Files Clips Online; Mulder Isn't Pining For Scully Any More In New X-Files Clips; Does Anyone Still Care About ‘The X-Files’? Here’s Why You Should. I try to care, but I find it so hard. I'VE ALREADY BEEN HURT ONCE, OKAY?

'X-Files' Creator Chris Carter's Secret Project - 'Fencewalker.' SAMANTHA TURNED INTO STARLIGHT AND I'M SUPPOSED TO TRUST YOU AGAIN?

Jason Isaacs Confirms Return as Lucius Malfoy for "Deathly Hallows" Films; WB Shows New "Half-Blood Prince" Highlight Reel, New Harry Montage at Cinema Expo; Kate Mulgrew Joins Cast of "Equus" Starring Dan Radcliffe. AND THE LOVELORN EMAILS TO "DANA," ARE YOU SHITTING ME?

‘Cars 2’ Revs Its Engines, But Will It Move Forward With Paul Newman? I'M JUST SAYING, DON'T YOU DARE EXPECT ME TO SEE THE MOVIE MORE THAN ONCE.

Richard Kelly's 'The Box' Delayed. I KNOW HOW TO QUIT YOU!

'Valkyrie' Update: No Cruise Photoshopping. The story here, because I don't think I mentioned it before, is that "according to [Slate 's] graphic experts, the photo of Claus von Stauffenberg had been altered to better resemble Tom Cruise." Except... apparently not. And now United Artists is mad.

Are We Ever Going to See That 'American McGee's Alice' Movie? And by the time we do, will we care?

MST3K boxed set? Omg yay!Top Ten Worst Kissers In Hollywood. Now, see, what I want to know is who the best kissers are, because obviously kissing on a set with a whole crew watching is likely to suck. What I want to know is who rises to the occasion (...) in spite of those conditions. I seem to remember Angela Bassett speaking very highly of Ralph Fiennes circa Strange Days, but I have very little other data on the matter.

Gina Gershon's 'Showgirls' Musical Is an Idea Whose Time Has Come; 'The Fly' Teleports Into A New Tuneful Medium. HEY GUYS WE DON'T HAVE TO MAKE MUSICALS OF EVERYTHING.

The Top 5 Special Effects Sequences From Bollywood's Time Travel Movie ['Love Story 2050']. I... I'm not really sure if this should count as the Uwe Boll Slot or not. I'm a little scared, mostly.
