Awesome updates on the Haiti podathon:

Some of the prize donations I was not at liberty to reveal yesterday:

@leaky: JK Rowling has donated a set of signed books for the Haiti drive...details to come!

@melissaanelli: Also... signed Neil Gaiman book!!!

The latter is a signed copy of A Harlequin Valentine, which I don't think has been mentioned anywhere else, so: EXCLUSIVE. This in addition to the five copies of a signed/personalized Unseen Academicals that Sir Terry Pratchett is donating, as mentioned yesterday, and some prizes from The Guild folks, although I have no idea yet what they are. Oh, and at least one signed copy of the Movies in Fifteen Minutes paperback, which is wayyyyyyyy down there on the squee! scale, but it's there nonetheless. And, as I will mention again: a lightsaber. You can totally win a lightsaber.

(This came together really fast, so a few things haven't quite shaken out, and not all the prize donors are listed yet; they're in the process of updating the scrolly widget. But, I mean, I personally managed not to have a panic attack and die contacted some of them, so I know for a fact that we have some really great people chipping in. You'll love it, I promise.)

ETA: This isn't up yet, but Peter David is also donating "Tigerheart, which is a Peter Pan pastiche, and a GN of the Sir Apropos of Nothing comic series." Yay and thanks!

And on USA Weekend: Harry Potter fans unite to help Haiti.
I do want to give people credit, though--it's not just Harry Potter fandom doing this, although it's hosted on a Harry Potter fansite; and this isn't THE fandom fundraiser. A fandom donation war between ontd_startrek and ontd_ai  raised $17,002 and $20,863, respectively. Misha Collins from Supernatural rounded up his Twitter minions and raised $26,251. And then on top of that, there's the help_haiti fanwork auction community. So fandom as a whole has been really, really great through this whole thing, and the LiveJournal fan comms have done themselves proud.

Meanwhile, tonight: Who You Might Get on the Phone if You Donate to "Hope for Haiti Now." Short answer: Everyone in Hollywood. Long answer:

Question: How are they going to get you off the phone?

I read that as get you off on the phone. BRB, dirty mind needs washing.

THAT is one fundraising tactic I could get behind! PHONE SEX WITH CELEBS, PROCEEDS GO TO CHARITY. =P

Goodness! I wonder how many people wanted to help that they had no room for???

YAY!! on all your goodies! Your telethon will be awesome!!!

PS how many people do you think will call and hang up till they GET WHO THEY WANT??

I heard they might put RPattz on the phone bank, too. Can you imagine the disaster? The entire phone system will crash under the load of fan girls dialing and re-dialing, in the hopes of hearing his (sparkly) voice!

I also feel sorry for any parents of young girls tonight. All the promoters need to do is put RPattz out there, make him look sad and ask for money for Haiti, and there go the millions.

Nah, I believe he's presenting in London. Putting him on the phone bank would not help anyone.

That said, I think it's brilliant to have him do stuff. TAKE THE TWIHARDS MONEY. TAKE IT ALL. TAKE IT FOR THE CHILDREN.

OMG that's awesome!!

All I saw was the Harry Potter books signed by JKR and I stopped reading.

That list is amazing. It's a good thing that I'm a poor college grad who has yet to find a job, otherwise, honestly, I'd be one of those people calling and hanging up until I'd get someone who I'd probably fangirl over on the phone.

That rocks so much. It makes me wish I had money to bid on things with, but, sadly, I gave all I could, and being a college student, I don't have that much.

Re: The phone thing. Sadly, I don't see David Tennant or another one of my voice crushes on there. And I agree. How are they going to get people off the phone?

I wish I wasn't unemployed and had money to donate. This sounds so awesome! Will definitely donate something when I start working again.

Do some research in your area...I know a local ice cream chain in my town is gathering food/water donations, for example. There are plenty of ways to get involved even if you don't have actual cash to spare.

Look up your local tv/radio/newspaper on the web and give them a call. I'm sure they will point you in the direction of a local area drive. :D

I passed on our offer for the Tigerheart and the GN of Apropos.

I love it when Fandom comes together for the greater good.

Yay! I thought you had, and I can mention it here; Melissa's just running around with her hair on fire trying to update the scrolly widget code.

help_haiti's confirmed is over $43,000, and we're going to have $115,000 total is all the donations come through.

*has been drowning in spreadsheets*

As much fun as it would be to call and talk to a celeb, my fear is that I would a) get someone I've never heard of (my apologies, Cat Cora) or b) end up talking to Diane Keaton and bursting out with "I saw you in the Santa Fe Children's Museum once!" or worse, c) get on the phone with Ewan McGregor and bursting out with "I stalked the filming offices of Big Fish since it was my dad's old middle school and I am convinced I saw you!" And really, no one needs any of that.

Oh man, seriously. Like if I got Gabourey Sidibe, I'd ask her to be my best friend, or I'd call Jared Leto "Jordan Catalano" and it would just be bad all around.

DriveThruRPG has raised over $90,000 from gamers.

So fandom as a whole has been really, really great through this whole thing, and the LiveJournal fan comms have done themselves proud.

Srsly, if I wasn't broke from having to relocate cross-country in November, I'd be doing more. A local ice cream chain here in NE Ohio has been collecting food, water, and items for Haiti in addition to monetary donations, and it is just amazing how many people are donating food/water because they don't have the actual cash to donate, but can spare a bag of non-perishable grocery items or a 12 pk of bottled water from their cupboards.

Fran Drescher? Really? That seems more like punishment for a good deed than anything else. I'm not saying she's a bad person or whatever but under no circumstances would I consider hearing her voice a reward of any kind.

In that instance your reward is that she hangs up very quickly.

Gosh, if I was within phonecall, I don't know that I'd actually make that call, for fear I'd ring up and they'd say, "Hi, this is Cat Cora," and I would have to say, "...I've never heard of you..."

There's a Canadian drive going on tonight as well (and starts in half an hour, sorry for the late warning) @ 7pm ET. Lots of Canadian celebs, but I don't think they will be answering phones. Instead, they'll concert performances and speaking and such.

Info is here: CBC website
Donating can be done here: Canada For Haiti website

I might sell my soul and more for the copy of A Harlequin Valentine, but my soul wouldn't help Haiti much. I suppose calling in hopes that I'd get to talk to Daniel Day Lewis or NPH (and helping Haiti too, of course) is more fun than homework.
