Let's hope I didn't bork too many of the links

Okay, I think we need to have a little night linkspam. I admit, these are cherry-picked from my Twitter page (which you can read whether you're on Twitter or not), but I'm still trying to get back on my feet and/or normal work schedule. I also have a more expansive raw linkspam feed from my Google Reader on FriendFeed. (I've always had that, in fact.) So you see, the thing is, I'm reading the news; I just haven't been posting it all here as a list. Which I should, because it's fun. I'm just... tired and out of sorts, and have been for a long time now.

Short version: Yes, I heard about the dippy Twilight fan and/or brilliant troll who thinks that The Wolfman ripped off New Moon.

Short version ETA: Yes, I heard about the handmade emo-scented Twilight vulva soap. No, I'm not linking to it. Y'all a bunch of handcrafty trolls over there at Etsy, for real.

Long version:

To recap, I went to see The Book of Eli (discussion) on Friday and then Shutter Island (discussion - SPOILERS) on Saturday, the latter by myself, because I Do What I Want When I Can Convince Someone To Drop Me Off There. I did not see The Wolfman, mostly because the times weren't good for me.

@kitalita: http://pleaserobme.com/ On an unrelated note, I'm sitting in my living room with a shotgun and three pit bulls.

@cleolinda: At the theater. Omg why am I here so early. PS Don't bother robbing my house, everyone else is home. And Sam will cute you to death.

@cleolinda: I love Bradford Howe. His lips say "You're watching ScreenVision!" but his eyes say "I hate you all."

They really do, y'all.

RT @neilhimself: Over at the Grauniad a bunch of writers give their 10 (or less) bits of writing advice. I managed 8 - http://bit.ly/dmYsJB

Meanwhile, I didn't get to go to Neil Gaiman's reading at the University of Alabama last week, which was fine; judging from what he said on Twitter afterward, it seems to have gone well ("Thank you all at the Bama for such an amazing reception. Happy, exhausted author. You lot are wonderful").

Apparently Tonner also got a Prince of Persia license (no pictures yet). Insert "WHERE IS MY ALICE" macro, etc. Word on the street is that someone at Toy Fair (YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE. Heh) made Robert Tonner aware of this journal. God help us all.

Even James Cameron Says 3D Craze Is Stupid. That is to say, he makes the very good point that if your movie isn't shot in 3D, and if there's no artistic point to its three-dimensionality, it's bullshit to convert the format just because that's what people do now.

And for our beloved Uwe Boll Slot: SHOWGIRLS 2: It's real, and the trailer is NSFW batshit insane.

I love me some DiCaprio. The man is on FIRE.

HOLY MAN Tonner knows about you? If he doesn't take your advice and hurry it up I'll poke him with a spork or something.

I'm afraid he's going to find that most recent doll entry with 100 comments of people bitching about the Doctor Who dolls, TBH.

(Besides, I think they're waiting on Ashley Greene's approval of the sculpt. I'm sure they'd put the doll out if they could.)

Bill Nighy recast as Reepicheep in Voyage of the Dawn Treader.

I have no problems with this since my allegiance always goes towards Nighy, but I assume the reason is because Reepicheep would be older? It's been forever since I've actually read the Narnia books.

eta: omg I'm watching the Showgirls 2 trailer right now and it is AMAZING. And obviously shot on a $10 budget. My favorite part is when she crawls out of the tub because it is obviously a reshoot due to all the water already on the floor.

Yeah, I'm like, they couldn't spring for the extra $5 for a mop?

Ian McShane? Damn, I might actually have to go see that movie in theatres.

Yeah, that pretty much got me on board with this movie.

No more Eddie Izzard as Reepicheep? This makes me sad!

I'm sorry they felt they couldn't use him again. He seemed to work ok in the part but maybe considering it's a larger role in this one they decided to go for a bigger name. If so that's a real shame cos I reckon Eddie could have done it just fine.

That Showgirls trailer isn't so much batshit insane as apparently constructed from scraps found on Uwe Boll's cutting room floor.

And for our beloved Uwe Boll Slot: SHOWGIRLS 2: It's real, and the trailer is NSFW batshit insane.

You know, it's nice to see something that truly deserves the Uwe Boll slot get its due. I summarized the trailer for kalliopeia:
the trailer is basically "naked girl naked girl naked girl, MURDER BY DUMBBELL, naked girl, naked girl, LESBIAN MAKEOUT, naked girl rubbing on pole, bar scene with gun, sloooo moooo, PUNCH KNIFE FIGHT, LOGOS! Parking garage?

You totally win the internets. Although you forgot the SKULL AND CROSSBONES motif, which, WTF.

That trailer is less of a trailer, and more like a bad student film. Right down to the woman screaming and then the cut to the skull, get it, because murder?

My favorite about the girl angry about Wolfman is that she obviously didn't read the books closely enough to remember that the 'werewolves' in them are actually just shape-shifters and not legit werewolves.

I KNOW, right?? Now we HAVE to see it, no matter how much badness may otherwise be present. Because IAN MCSHANE!

Also, you're sending me that soap link, right? Right? Because you love me? :)

Y'know, I'm not 100% sure about her reading Emily Dickinson's illness through the imagery in her poems. Not to sound unduly dismissive, but it just seems to easy--if she was ill in the way the author suggests, the imagery makes it too obvious.

Maybe I'm just suspicious, generally, of reading her life--or the factual details of her life--"through" the poems. I read the author's book on TS Eliot (where she does much the same thing) and wasn't convinced...

Thanks for the Emily Dickinson link! I didn't know all that drama existed in their family, but it was a really interesting read and I'm definitely passing it along to my retired American Lit teacher mother.

Also starting to look forward to the next Pirates, which I wasn't sure I would. I had no idea Penelope was in it, but now that I know, bring it on.

AH IAN MCSHANE PIRATE *SPLODE*
