The plot thickens

Short version: thank y'all so, so much for helping Emily (foresthouse) out with her eye surgery. It means a lot to both of us. Altogether, she now has about three months' worth of payments, thanks to y'all. "Oh my God! I'm just over here waving my hands," she said to me last night--"well, waving one hand with the phone in the other. Oh my God!" She said that so much weight was already lifting off her shoulders, which was great when she went into surgery this morning.

Long version:

Somehow, it got even worseCollapse )

As an unrelated update--both of my grandmothers aren't doing well at the moment, as previously mentioned, but my mother's mother is at doing better at home with her 24-hour sitters; I went to the hospital last night to see my father's mother in ICU, and she's in relatively good spirits.

I've just been too wrung out to deal with a lot of things this week, so I'm going to try to catch up on linkspam at some point, after I go to the zoo tomorrow with small children to visit the Pallas cat YAY, and there will be a two-part Secret Life this weekend, probably one part on Saturday and the other on Sunday. It's one coherent installment, really; it's just too much material for a single post, so I'm splitting it up. Not to get too NEXT WEEK, ON LOST about it, but ~THE SHELF WILL NEVER BE THE SAME.~

Also there is a podcast-related surprise but I cannot tell you about it because it is a surprise.

OH WAIT AND: BREAKING HOBBIT NEWS: Martin Freeman confirmed for Bilbo Baggins, and Richard Armitage for Thorin, which I did not see coming at all, but am very intrigued by. Read the article for other confirmed dwarves, and unconfirmed names that include David Tennant, Stephen Fry, Bill Nighy, James Nesbitt, and Saoirse Ronan.

What the hell.
Can she sue them? Oh, right, that would take even more money.
I'm afraid I can't help. There are problems that have nothing to do with abscence of money, but everything to do with sending them. Best wishes are still the only thing I can offer, and I understand that's not enough. I'm sorry.

I'd bid on signed copies of Mi15.

Oh God, I am so sorry you are swamped with so many stressful occurrences with your loved ones. Some deity is seriously testing your strength right now. I hope we can generate enough money so that Emily won't have to live in a box on the street once her eyes are fixed or permanently wear an eye-patch. In my years of fandom, I've seen people come together so good heartedly that I'm very hopeful that we can help her pay this. If until the end of this month isn't enough to raise 3 grand, maybe she can take a loan out and we can keep the auction going to pay that off? (I actually don't know how that works in the States, so.. that would depend on if she has the option.)

I am sending well wishes to your grandmothers. Don't worry about linkspam and such.. you know your flist and fans and random others are all rooting for you and Emily and if you need to take some time off from posting or collecting links and doing SLoD, that is okay. You have more than enough to deal with as it is.

Oh, MARTIN Freeman! Okay! For five minutes there I thought MORGAN Freeman and was all "well, okay, I can see that being EPIC if...not at all how I'd imagined Bilbo." That's the brainmelt I get for getting up earlier than I need to and hopping onto LJ right away.

I just got a decent GST rebate cheque for being a broke-ass student, so yay I can donate! *scurries to Pay Pal*

Glad I'm not the only one who did a double take!

Morgan Freeman would be epic though--someone needs to jump on that quick. Or cast him as Gandalf! (is Sir Ian McKellan coming back, I haven't heard anything on him yet?)

I totally did the same thing. :)

I think it would be kind of cool if you auctioned of a "Pick a movie for me to M15". And the winner gets to choose any movie, one that is coming out or one that has already happened (whether it be something slightly current or even like....Gone with the Wind....okay if someone picked Gone with the Wind, I would probably kick them in the kneecaps but you get the idea).

Hell I'd throw down a bid for that!

I have dibs on The Thin Man!

If you need something sellable that can be produced in a relatively quick amount of time, why not taking requests for certain shots of The Shelfians? People love Secret Life, and I'm sure they'd be delighted to recieve a personalized little snapshot of something uncanon (Anna wearing Elizabeth's hat, Clarice sneaking up behind Bella with a little plastic knife, etc.)

OMG! Richard Armitage?! Honestly, I just jumped out of my chair and started clapping. He's such a fantastic actor (and more than a little sexy ). And a possible David Tennant? I was already going to see this movie, but now I ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO.

And a new SLOD too! What a good ending to a terrible week.
