In case you missed it: The Secret Life of Dolls (the Dire Capybara seems to have been a big hit).

I'm still mulling over That Which We Do Not Speak Of, which we might as well Speak Of because we all know I'm doing it. There's basically two movie franchises that I'm locked into until the bitter end, and Harry Potter is one of them. The problem is that the first Deathly Hallows movie is pretty serious without being mock-worthily srs bsns, so I'm having trouble with it. However, I think I have found--not a gimmick, exactly, but an angle to approach it from.

Meanwhile, we had a lot of fun recording the podcast on Saturday. Since he mentioned it too, I'll go ahead and say that Mark (who is now Reading The Hunger Games) was our guest. I was the Temporary Guest Hosting for Dayna, which was a lot of fun, but I don't think there's any danger of anyone wanting me as a permanent replacement; it's like having two kinds of salt on the table instead of salt and pepper. ANYWAY MY POINT IS not to make you think it'll be a boring show, my point is GET EXCITE.

The title of this entry, by the way, refers to this:

It's really happening: Warner Brothers reboots Buffy The Vampire Slayer without Joss Whedon [Please God No]. "Details of the film are being kept under wraps, but I can say while this is not your high school Buffy, she'll be just as witty, tough, and sexy as we all remember her to be." Have the riots started yet?

The rest of the linkspam? Is all Grade A.

Harry Potter: $125.1M weekend; Deathly Hallows Conjures Up a Franchise Record. Also: 'Harry Potter' Villains: Jason Isaacs explains how Alan Rickman and Daniel Radcliffe helped create Lucius Malfoy. YOU GUYS. HE came up with the idea for the pimp cane! And the wand being in the pimp cane! "After a second’s thought, [Columbus] said, ‘You know what, I think the toy guys are going to love you.’ He was completely right.” BRILLIANT.

Meanwhile: 'Lost' Creater Disappointed with 'Harry Potter' but says he now understands that a fan is, you know, allowed to not like stuff and still be a fan; What Do We Make of Damon Lindelof's Mea Culpa to Lost Fans?

Carey Mulligan To Seduce Leonardo DiCaprio In Baz Luhrmann's 'The Great Gatsby.'

'Cowboys And Aliens' Trailer Features A Badass Daniel Craig... And Harrison Ford's Big Comeback?; EXCLUSIVE: Jon Favreau's 'Cowboys & Aliens' Trailer Commentary. My Deathly Hallows audience burst into laughter when they saw the title at the end of the trailer. It was so awesome.

'Green Lantern' Trailer: Freakish Heads and So Much Green Stuff; Ryan Reynolds Named Sexiest Man Alive By People Magazine (shine on, corporate synergy!); Another Terrifying Look at Peter Sarsgaard in Green Lantern.

New 'Green Hornet' (NOT Lantern) Trailer.

Zooey Deschanel Rumored For 'Spider-Man' Cast.

'Tangled' Will Be Final Disney Fairytale -- Is That a Good Thing?; 'Tangled' Review: A Disney Twist on the Princess Formula. ETA: Or not.

'Superman' Casting Rumors: 'Watchmen's Matthew Goode New Frontrunner. I'm torn between "Wha?" and "OOOOOOH" at this point.

39 Seconds of 'Sucker Punch' Madness.

First Look at John Cusack as Poe in The Raven.

'Source Code' Trailer: 'Moon's Duncan Jones Returns with More Smart Sci-Fi.

Daniel Day-Lewis To Star In 'Lincoln' For Director Steven Spielberg And DreamWorks.

Warner Bros To Make Another JFK Conspiracy Film, This Time With Leonardo DiCaprio.

'Red Riding Hood' Trailer, Warner Brothers' Attempt to Capture the 'Twilight' Crowd.

Speaking of which, 'Twilight' Cast Will Have Small Army Protecting Them During 'Breaking Dawn' Shoot.

And finally: Mark Wahlberg Aware of 'The Happening' Being Awful. "We’d actually had the luxury of having lunch before to talk about another movie, and it was a bad movie that I did. [Amy Adams] dodged the bullet. I don’t want to tell you what movie… All right, The Happening with M. Night Shyamalan. It is what it is. Fucking trees, man, the plants. Fuck it." Yeah.

This Buffy movie thing does not bode well. The original Buffy movie wasn't that great--it was only the series that really got things going.

This. Have they not learned that having Joss Whedon do things his way is EXACTLY what the fans have been waiting for? Not some arbitrary "lets get some of this new wave of vamp popularity money" reboot. We want Joss!

It's too bad you've already used the Viking saga schtick, because that could be a good treatment for HP.

(Deleted comment)

what are you talking about?

harry potter or something else?

Pitchforks! Torches! Hollywood here I come.

I'll hop in line behind you.

Seriously, I'm so sick of remakes of stuff I loved from my childhood but Buffy isn't even that old. And without Joss on board? What's even the point?

Why not make some new Vampire Slayer -Insert Name Here- instead of "rebooting" Buffy? Ugh.

I have been filled with ragewoe over that Buffy thing all damn day. I am too exhausted to reiterate my anguish so I will just c&p my comment from elsewhere on the internets:

Okay. Here is what I find irritating about this. We have a new film in which no one associated with the original series is involved. I feel it is reasonably safe to say it will be rubbish, and that people will say so, loudly and repeatedly. And then we will be left with an entire generation of people seeing Buffy for the first time and somehow thinking that it is actually worse than Twilight, and what is left of my soul will die that much more.

eta: 'Lost' Creater Disappointed with 'Harry Potter'

Yeah, fuck him. He's a Polanski apologist and now that Lost is over I don't have to pretend not to think he's a douchebag anymore for the sake of my sanity and a beloved series.

About the Buffy news, unpopular fandom opinion time: it's odd because I actually want to be happy? There aren't enough female heroines out there, especially ones with any kind of franchise, and I'd love Buffy to have a multigenerational legacy like Wonder Woman. And in a perfect world, a new take on Buffy could address some of the problematic stuff Joss Whedon did include while keeping the stuff that worked (namely, all the female characters and how prominent they were).

But this isn't a perfect world, and it's more likely they'll completely miss the point of Buffy in order to make her appeal to a mainstream audience. It makes me more sad than garment-rending.

Yes, I'm not to fussed about them rebooting it (I feel like it was bound to happen anyway), but I am really interested in seeing how a female writer takes on Buffy.

'Tangled' Will Be Final Disney Fairytale -- Is That a Good Thing?

It's not, actually.

in plain english that means there will still be princess movies?

call me a dork or naive, but those hold a special place in my heart.

-Instead of a Buffy remake how about a Veronica Mars movie Warner Brother??!?!?

-Carey and Leo on the same screen together? WANT.Not sure how I feel about him being in yet another JFK conspiracy Film

-I am excited for Tangled mostly because of THE HORSE. As far as it being the last Disney fairytale film I don't think its going to last. Never say never and all that.

-NGL I think Sucker Punch looks kind of awesome.

-Matthew Goode as Superman? Hhhmmmmmmm. I ponder.

-Cowboys and Aliens doesn't look so bad

-John Cusack as Poe? Ehh....

-I'm going to be wasting space for saying this but I think people need to back of Nolan and give him time to make choices.

-Instead of a Buffy remake how about a Veronica Mars movie Warner Brother??!?!?

Oh, yes please!

I really think that the actors playing the HP bad guys really just have the most fun with their roles and every interview only further cements that.

Damn it, now I'm going to have to go buy EW for the rest of it.

I have that issue and it's AWESOME.

Oh, that Buffy thing is SO UPSETTING! Usually, I'm happy letting The Industry do what it likes, and I can just ignore as needed, but Buffy is BUFFY! She's like...I can't even....I mean, what? Why would anyone do such a thing? What's wrong with Buffy?

I am sad.

I can just see it starring a Disney star like Selena Gomez or Miley. I suppose there could be something new and different that could be done with the Buffy story, but I have a feeling this is going to some sort of cash in on Twilight-mania.

"Fucking trees, man, the plants. Fuck it."

That is the perfect epitaph for The Happening.

On the thing about Disney giving up fairy tales - I don't know if this is true or not (someone could check? ^^;; ) but apparently Disney posted this on their Facebook page:

"Disney: A headline in today’s LA Times erroneously reported that the Disney fairy tale is a thing of the past, but I feel it is important to set the record straight that they are alive and well at Disney and continue this week with Tangled, a contemporary retelling of a much loved story. We have a number of projects in development with new twists that audiences will be able to enjoy for many years to come. - Ed Catmull"

So...the Snow Queen is still on, I wonder? :D

I remember seeing some of the concept art for The Snow Queen about a year ago and being in awe of it. I hope they actually bring that back; it looked incredible.

Daniel Craig in cowboy gear. I...I feel a bit faint. (I have been aware of the film for quite awhile, but today was the first time I bothered to go look at anything from it.)

The Mark Wahlberg story made me laugh and laugh.

Daniel Craig in cowboy gear. I...I feel a bit faint.

Mmm, yes please!

My Deathly Hallows audience burst into laughter when they saw the title at the end of the trailer. It was so awesome.

Hah, mine too! I still think it looks totally awesome, though.

Mine, too! First we were all, what is this? But then we saw the title and started laughing. It's such an appropriate title.
