@LiveJournal: Currently experiencing a DDoS attack for the past two days -- status.livejournal.org

@gildedbat: @LiveJournal pity they're going to have to set that "days without a DDoS attack" sign back to 0. They got all the way over 100.

@LJmysticowl: Russian news confirms, also says that paid accounts will be credited the time they lost due to downtime.

@chez_amanda: There's also this Time article about the attacks that I just read.

ETA: @LiveJournal: Please to say we are up and running again! Thank you, U.S. and Moscow teams, who have worked tirelessly to get things restored! Happy LJing!

So... that's what's up with that, then. I want to stay on LiveJournal, but in order to do that, I'm gonna have to have a LiveJournal to stay on. (This entry is posted on both LJ and DW. As long as I can crosspost, I will.)

As a reminder in case you didn't see it: the Made of Fail podcast with Kevin, sometimes Dayna, Mark, Rinna and me, "Mischief Managed"! If the LJ link doesn't work, this is the direct download (or you can subscribe in iTunes; it's free). You may also want to listen to the first Deathly Hallows review show ("In Conclusion, Alan Rickman" [download] ), which had just Kevin, Mark and me. Or even the Half-Blood Prince show further back that I was on! We have many wizard-based options for your aural entertainment.

Movie links! They are exceptionally organized tonight, in no small part because I have three days' worth, and this isn't even all of them.

First Look at James Howson as Heathcliff in Andrea Arnold's 'Wuthering Heights.' Here's the interesting thing about casting a black actor as Heathcliff in a period movie: I think you can defend it textually. I went back and looked at the part where the ragged, orphaned Heathcliff is first brought home ("I had a peep at a dirty, ragged, black-haired child"; "that gipsy brat") and found a later description of adult Heathcliff as "He is a dark-skinned gipsy in aspect." "Gipsy" or "gypsy" refers most often to the Romani or Roma people, who seem to have originated in India, based on genetics and linguistics. However, "gypsy" derives from "Egyptian" and thus is something of a misnomer--my point here being, the 1800s English conception of what a "gipsy" should look like was probably fairly broad and inexact. It could mean a lot of things. You've got room, in my opinion, to cast within a plausible range of "dark" tones.

First Look At Michael Fassbender And Carey Mulligan In 'Shame,' Plus Many More New Movie Images.

@cleolinda: To repeat what I said yesterday: There are no movies Michael Fassbender is not in. There are only movies you have not found him in yet.

@chez_amanda: There's also this Time article about the attacks that I just read.

Just wanted to mention in case anyone thinks that's in reference to this week's downtime--that article is from April. This week's DDoS'ing might have the same story behind it in the end, but I guess we'll find out for sure soon if there's not already news!

As soon as I posted this, I got a message from one of my friends. It IS a similar situation, yay! From email (please, please don't screw up the formatting, Opera):

Hacker Attacks Paralyze LiveJournal
28 July 2011
The Moscow Times

Blog service LiveJournal.com, which has been down for much of this week, admitted Wednesday that the problems were caused by hacker attacks, not technical malfunction.

Silly hackers, no one cares about your emo missions. You'll not run me off!

If this comment posts a million times, I'm still having timeout issues with the servers sporadically.

I'll be honest a get a good dose of second hand embarrassment and want to give some side-eye to whenever someone brings up slash (or even fanfiction!) to actors or writers of their material/characters. Logically I shouldn't be because most of them already know or are at least aware at it's existence, it's like my brain screams at me 'THE FOURTH WALL MAN LEAVE THE FOURTH WALL ALONE \O/.

Casting a black actor as Heathcliff could work, textually you're right. White, black or whatever, I still find myself wishing every character in the novel minus the kids would die in a burning asteroid crash.

Anything that keeps Lee Pace acting I'm all for and I'm more surprised they're making another Dan Brown novel into a movie, the first (two) books anyway weren't brilliant pieces of literature but they were entertaining and a really quick read, but the third one I couldn't even finish, I struggeled so much. It took him forever to finish it and you can tel he did his darn homework because every chapter was like reading someones dissertation, I wanted to go "YES DAN YOU DID YOUR RESEARCH GOOD FOR YOU."

I should say I'm surprised because I thought the second one didn't so so well? IDK.

I don't think I'll ever be over Pushing Daisies. I don't want to have to share him with the Twilight fans.

As long as I can crosspost, I will.

[And then they hear ... the vengeful dolphins]

Re: Peeta, I think it's your mental image, because when Katniss believes his strategy is to be a weakling she thinks it won't work because he has strong arms from working at the bakery and looks like a Career even if he's not.

Other than that, agreed. None of those kids look like they have ever been without three full meals. Maybe that'll get fixed later and it's only these promo pics? IDK. They need more dirt.

Cannot stop laughing.

I think I'd rather watch that version, honestly.

Hands down, I think Jasper's Hair is my favorite character in the Twilight movies.

Everything I know about the Hunger Games, I learned from people on the internet talking about the Hunger Games (don't know a single person in real life who's read the books), and yet I still laughed hysterically when I saw "first look at Peeta and Gale". Revenge of the Dawson's Creek casting agents?

Someone else who didn't like Happy Feet, thank god.

I agree with you on the textual support for Heathcliff as a black guy. It's actually an interpretation that I've run into before (usually in the context of Bertha Rochester's possible African heritage), but I didn't think anyone would actually make a film adaptation that incorporated it.

I am, however, steeling myself for Lenny Kravitz Cinna Whining Redux, this time from Bronte fans.

It also works with the assumption that Heathcliffe is actually Mr Linton's kid, the mother died, and his "business trip" was for the specific purpose of fetching him. "I found him. Yeah. That's it. Found him. NO CATHY YOU CAN'T MARRY HIM."

Completely random, but...

I kind of want the boots Jennifer Lawrence is wearing in that photo from The Hunger Games.

I don't think Orlando's accent is bad, but everyone else's accent in that movie is just so bad. It really hurts me.

Please to be casting Southern actors in movies that take place in Southern locales. We exist, honest.

Bloom's is not as bad. Colin Firth's is TERRIBLE, it seems like he is trying to sound like a specific other person and I can't figure out who...

All of these reviews/etc for Attack the Block are making me miserable because it's not showing near me (Chicago =/= Detroit) and I have no idea if/when I'll ever be able to see it. I'm like, please stop reviewing this because it sounds so awesome and yet I CANNOT HAVE.

Instead of Fassbender in every movie (I don't get his appeal, I mean I do, but he doesn't do it for me at all), can we have Tom Hiddleston? Please? I need more.

I feel a little creepy doing this, but I saw something yesterday that immediately had me thinking, "I really need to a take a picture and show Cleolinda." I apologize if you've seen this before. I was at Plato's Closet, a buy/sell used clothing store, and was perusing purses when I saw this gem hiding behind a Baby Phat tote. I saw the back first:

My curiosity was piqued, so I immediately turned it around and saw:

OF COURSE. So I snapped a picture and then showed it to my brother. Who decided to actually buy it for a friend as a gag belated birthday present (it was $6). I am pretty sure we walked out of that place being judged as crazy Twihards.

Mmk. There's a lot here to comment about.

Really, though... I'd just like to address that Breaking Dawn poster.

Firstly, I'm glad they finally fixed Emmett's hair. That awkward bowl cut was just sad.

Secondly, I'm glad they actually gave Alice the pixie cut she was supposed to have 3 god awful movies ago.

Thirdly, Jasper. Dear, sweet, sad, Jasper. It's better? Idk. Did they jack that wig off of Riley from the last movie?? I'm halfway hoping his hair changes between the first and second Breaking Dawns. It's tradition at this point, really.

I'm amused at the fact that Condon and his team came in and just kind of redid everything. Like the hair, and Alice has swapped out her Cullen Crest Choker for a long chained medallion version.

Actually... Looking at Alice and Jasper over there... is anyone else getting a hardcore "Hollywood Hipster" vibe? Anyone?
